I have been testing torrents/newsgroups over the last four days on my 1Mbps account.

I have used 332MB on my M-Web Uncapped this month. (Unthrottled).

Whenever I fire up a torrent or IS News Server on my complimentary Gamco 50GB account it reaches my full line speed very quickly. News Servers basically instantaneously.

M-Web Uncapped hardly wants to go above 20kb on the torrent and right now I am testing the Mweb News Server, 53kb pe second (stable). Switch over to IS News and it reaches ~100kb+ on my 1Mbps line.

Tests were all done 6PM onwards on every evening. Wish the shaping wasn't so heavy.

One is a capped product vs uncapped - I guess this is to be expected though. There was however a very long time the M-Web account did NOT behave like this.

Evening Mr G, We never did prioritise torrents, as it is given the lowest priority on our network.

Thanks for your feedback though ;)

The same old fools that since inception supported Mweb before they became the best ADSL provider, that was until a few months ago as now they are back where they belong at the bottom of the pile with the other shirt! Old ladies et al who only browse and check e-mail as Pr@nsters wont make it therefor the contract to lock you in so they cannot or wont again experience the same deluge of customers they see dumping them right now. What Rtards they became since this neo CEO vermin came on board..

Am I reading unthrottled in the advertisement:
MWEB Business offers various broadband services. While we strongly recommend an uncapped, unshaped and unthrottled service, we realize that businesses have different connectivity requirements. Ask our sales consultants which solution would best meet your business' requirements.

Going to do some homework and then another complaint is likely to be coming

Aren't they the most expensive ISP?

Well, if you look at it in terms of Rands per Gig ... Then yes.

I USED to be with MWEB. I did a calculation of what I was paying per month, and MMEB - er - allowed me ....80Gigs before slowing me down by throttling - or in fact - making connectivity more expensive.

Now with my new ISP, I have done 80 Gigs in 12 days, essentially making them around HALF the price of MWEB in terms of ZAR per Gig, assuming I continue at a constant rate ... which I couldn't with MWEB.

MWEB also have this uncanny way of treating their customers as if they are lesser people. MWEB are arrogant.... always have been. I excused this attitude when they were a real ISP. Now that they have become a bunch of money grabbing thugs with no clear useage rules - it became too much and I moved on ... but HAPPY NOW with my NEW ISP.

I'm flabbergasted at this response.

The user undertakes some pretty scientific research an posts the results in a straightforward non-antagonistic fashion.

The MWEB rep dodges the point the user is making that the service has changed significantly for the worse and almost politician like condescendingly implies that the user is barking up the wrong tree... Then winks at him, saying "thanks for the feedback."

I'm so glad to be shod of my MWEB account. This is a terrible way to treat customers and frankly, you deserve a Stones men's room PK.

Also what are you calculating those figures on? Local stats or the control panel? I'm interested to use my own measurement as I found my detailed usage totals of 30 days was very different to the 30 day total MWeb gave me, to my favor tho.

4GB per day isn't a lot. 4x30=120GB

If you know how much you use; rather go onto a large capped account. They're becoming affordable.

I haven't been happier since moving away from Mweb. I'll be happier when I move away from DSTV.

I do about 7 hours of downloads at night so its VERY unfair that the usage of those hours affects the shaping. Rest is normal stuff.

Abuse the network when its off peak, and mweb treats us like this.

Which 1mbps package are you on?

Standard 1mbps

Sadly on the control panel, will check router though.

Almost in reach but still a little expensive for me.

Having to watch your bandwidth usage on an uncapped account is ABSURD.

There is no arguing this, it is. It is silly. It is stupid. It is a **** policy.

My final month with a company that has been more two-faced than anything Batman could imagine. I'm also sure this "Mweb Guy" is either not the same "Mweb Guy" we've known for sometime, or he's degraded into an insinuating pile of human faecal matter. Just a few days ago he started blaming users for their policy, stating how impossible it was to download that amount legally. Nice little bit of steam information set him straight, yet worse? MWEB HAVE THEIR OWN STEAM CONTENT SERVER.

Man, this is just....shameful....and everyone who "accepts it" is setting a dangerous precedent. Remember, once they learn they can make you wear a collar, others may collar you too. Even shaping feels like **** (and is illegal in much of the developed world), but it's always going to be a hell of a lot better than straight throttling, or in Mweb's case, a combination of both!

Agreed. I would guess that at least one ''MWEB guy'' is a person of authority - a manager or supervisor. This MWEB guy often comes on with a condescending tone - probably treating his customers as subordinates .... have seen this before.

Anyway, I agree with your comment. This has been a PR disaster of MWEB, despite their lack of acknowledgment and their apparent policy of ignoring it and hoping it will go away (bad strategy, but thankfully not one that I need work on).

I am going into my final 10 days and as yet, seems MWEB doesn't wish to reconcile, ... would be wise if they did, but what the hey, they aren't the only game in town.

Just PM The mweb Guy, he seems to have it down to a T.

Hi Cryaxxx.

I definitely have an MWEB uncapped account and I think the performance is brilliant currently.

As Far as throttling goes, I have not been throttled as I use the account in an acceptable manner :)
