I recently arranged a 1Mb ADSL uncapped line with MWEB. It's been active for about a week, but is pretty useless. Here are the results of a test I just ran:

Download Speed: 43 kbps (5.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 185 kbps (23.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 663 ms

At 6am in the morning I get about 700 kbps, so I assume its congestion?
Phoned MWEB, and was basically told to try again when the lines are not so busy???

I'm in Randpark Ridge, and as far as I know my exchange is Assvoelkop.

Anyone out there experiencing similar problems in this exchange area?

Evening panama

I would like to look at what could be causing this. There are a few things that could cause this, let me look at the account first and provide you with more information.

PM me the MWEB email address or username.

Just an update for all those who may have read this thread:

MWEB GUY has been great in his/her efforts. Unfortunately it look like a Telkom issue (Congestion, go figure)

My last comms with MWEB guy just for transparency:

--------------------------------
Thanks for the effort.

What now?
I arranged my new ADSL thru MWEB so I did not have to deal with Telkom, as I have had ADSL thru Telkom before, and I had the similar issues, and they were totally uninterested in resolving the issue. (it was about 4 years ago)
Just to be clear, I don't have any animosity with MWEB.
I just cant understand why I can't get any decent broadband where I live. I'm not in some remote location in the middle of no where. I'm in RandPark Ridge, in the middle of JHB suburbia!

I have tired Telkom ADSL, MTN, Vodacom, Cellc and Iburst. The best I currently have is Iburst, which is stable, but not fast enough for things such as YouTube, gaming, etc...
The best cellular connection is MTN, but the connection is very unreliable. It constantly varies and is a nightmare when good latency is required.

So to stop ranting and Raving: can I ask you honestly, is there something we can do about this, or should I just accept I live in a broadband black hole, and that I should just accept it?

Fyi, results of a mweb speed test I just ran:

Download Speed: 195 kbps (24.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 357 kbps (44.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 566 ms

Good Morning

I have escalated all the results from our testing to Telkom via a Line Fault.

We wait on there feedback as to the possible cause.

Received a call from MWEB, Telkom have apparently admitted to congestion, but have no plan to upgrade/resolve the issue. Solution is to monitor the speed, and hope it improves. So be it.....

Afternoon panama, please ensure you paste comparative speed test results with the Telkom guest account as well. If you require the account details, let me know and I provide it to you via private messaging.

Is this possible? I could run to Rosebank and back in the time it took to even execute this speed test
I even had to use my 3g card to post this

and yes I can run more trace routes, etc... but really, its time consuming and is not really reaping any benefits. I have already done this multiple times, with no benefits. Do we have any update from Telkom?

The latest feedback is that your fault has been linked to a network fault: NF is due to congestion
