MWEB Very Slow ADSl speed in Randpark Ridge

Randpark Ridge's exchange has been congested for over a year now, Telkom doesn't seem to be interested in fixing it even though there are numerous businesses in the area.

We've moved to a dedicated 10Mb wireless link at our offices after bonding 4x4Mbps adsl lines and still only getting max 2Mb during the day.

Hi Panama,

I have exactly the same problem. Also with MWEB. Account and adsl line. Not that it really has anything to do with them. I have tested an IS account on my line with the same results. Seems to have serious congestion issues from around 6pm to 11pm. Local latency goes from around 12ms normal to anywhere from 150ms to 600ms. Makes the line completely useless for gaming.

Can't post a speed test tonight as I got frustrated waiting for it to complete. End of the month download rush I presume.

To give you an idea of just how slow this is, it took over 20 minutes to run the speed test.

Okay, so MWEB have downgraded me to 1 GB capped line to save costs, which is sensible as clearly an uncapped option is pretty useless given these speeds. However, doing a quick mental calc, and given the fact I only use the line in the evenings, its impossible for me to even reach the 1 Gb limit.

In this day and age, the mind boggles.

I PM'd Telkom to ask for an update on the NF. They replied saying the fault was serious, and was not going to be resolved anytime soon. They did however as for my number to see if it was possible to move me to another DSLAM. I obliged, and wait with baited breath....

Wow, look at that ping...
Looks like Telkom came thru and moved me to another DSLAM.
This looks more like a 1M line should.
I will continue to monitor, so let hope for the best.
