Um, why is she taking anti depressants - or why does the boss think she needs it? This is highly unprofessional behaviour from a senior staff member, and legal action should be taken immediately.

Ummm how is the boss getting anti depressants and ummm people are different so she can't just give her any (well besides the fact she shouldn't be giving your daughter any medication).

Why are you even posing this question to the forum? Of course its ****ing wrong, the more important question is why is your daughter just allowing this to happen.

Does the boss hold her down and force the pill into her mouth then force her to swallow it?

Doesn't matter

We've been counselled that you can't even dispense an Aspirin / Panado to someone - if anything untowards happens as a result, company can held liable. So if someone want's a Panado, they must go get it themselves - you can't 'give' it to them.
I highly doubt that the company could face legal liability - not for an OTC painkiller. You can buy them in flippin PicknPay - so no actual dispensing. Prescription meds is another story.

Besides, half the women in my office carry painkillers with them anyway (cramps) so its really not that difficult to get hold of some.

We interpret 'go get it yourself' as 'there's a box of panado on my desk' - if you take two, well I didn't give hem to you'

So is it her medication or the bosses medication? The way you typed it says she has your daughters medicine in her drawer.

Is your daughter depressed?

From what I understand, the boss is keeping the medication in her drawer and she (my daughter) has to swallow the pill every morning.

My daughter does not stay with me. I only heard about this by coincidence. I don't know the exact circumstances, except that there is some office politics and the boss thinks that my daughter is depressed and in need of medication. She was told to either get the medication or to get out. I am fuming and mad as hell.

I would have left the job if I had a boss like that and I did years back, but not in the same way and quit the job after 3 months.

No point in staying in a situation like that.

Office politics can be ugly and devastating, especially for a young, inexperienced woman.

Forcing her to take it sounds like a strong word but I have no other way of saying this. Being in management does not automatically grant a manager the right to judge, diagnose and medicate staff.

My daughter has been in tears for a while but it was difficult to get to the bottom of the problem. I will get more information over the next few days because this does not sit well with me.

That is definitely illegal.

Does your daughter work for a corporate or a 'small' business?

Is your daughter 6?

I don't mean to sound funny, but I think anyway over that age can say no?
Or have I missed something?
The boss sounds like a control freak and one can't really tell your boss how you feel especially if your boss is unreasonable person and will take it as an insult.
The daughter might be grateful for the job but can't find another for the same amount of money or as close to home.

You cannot always tell your boss what is on his mind if you are a pleb/new to the job.
