I walk into the lounge now to hug and kiss my gf (which I do alot btw) and she's on her laptop, she asks me if I shut her laptop down, to which I reply yes, because I did.

Anyways, it's booting up and I already start doing stuff on it and she gets all like... "NO!!!! Don't! When it's starting up, its a very sensitive time" and she blabbers on how I must leave it and let it start up or it'll crash and be all weird and stuff.

I walked outta the lounge laughing.

I think I'm dating a complete nut case!

Now shes yelling at me for not turning off her PC properly...

"It's because you touched it before it was ready"

It's like I molested a child or something...

For once I find myself agreeing with Pooky. Would you call up a mate for the sole purpose of telling them this absolutely riveting story?

She's right. When it starts up, Windows reads all its garbage files into memory and that causes that little 5400 RPM disk to work very hard. If you mess with the laptop then - eg juggle it, you risk crashing the HDD heads more than if you did that with a HDD with it's heads parked or idling.
