Just bought the lens and all I can say is WOW. I have not had the chance to test it extensively, but so far it seems very sharp and with great colours. Images just have a certain "pop" to them.

I've instantly developed a new form of Lens Lust - Expensive Lens Lust. :p This is my first decent (read: expensive) lens and there is something very comforting and confidence inspiring in such a solid, heavy, big lens. It just feels right. :)

On another note, I almost bought a 2nd hand Sigma 30 f/1.4 at ORMS yesterday. Fortunately I took my camera with me - the focus was so out of whack even the salesman recommended I don't take it! Pity though, a wider fast prime is really the only thing I feel I need extra right now.

Oh, and one day a 70-200 f/4 L IS... :p

You still have some time to kick ass with your news lens, I'm only planning to buy my N8 at the end of this month ;)
At half the price of your 24-136mm lens it will only do 28mm so you can rest assured you'll get some amazing wide angle shots that I simply cannot do.

Rouxer, I wanted to sell all my gear and buy the N8, but I'm terrified of not being able to stop taking photos with it and miss important calls/mails. So to save my career I rather bought the lens. At least it gives me something to aspire to - the N8.

:)

You should rather go for an iPhone, I hear the camera is excellent, also after taking lots of photos the battery will be low so you can get a Volkswagen with an iPhone dock to charge it on the go.

Once you pop, you can't stop...

After my stint doing a music festival with the 70-200mm f/2.8 L USM, I am thoroughly in love with this lens. I AM going to buy myself one. The only question now is which one? I want the IS, and the older model is still available here and there. But the new one is even better, but much more expensive.

Chicken feed compared to what I'm going to have to fork out next for a 400mm f/2.8. :D

I'm also tempted to add a 70-200 f/2.8 IS to the bag . . . and get another bag while I'm at it. :D

True. But I'm not making any money out of mine.

If I get a 70-200 I'll have to get another bag too - I don't have a single on that can fit it.

This is my "one day I'll have one of these lenses" lens.

I've had an EF-S 15-85mm IS for a little ove a year now, and it truely is a fantastic lens. The wide angle makes it perfect for landscapes and the long end is perfect for portraits. The minimum focusing distance makes it an ideal lens for shooting amazing close-ups as well. All the pictures I have on flickr, taken with the 500D, are with the 15-85 (the rest are with my SX10).

An illustration of what the lens can do in terms of close-ups can be seen here:

Yes, the 2nd picture is a 100% crop - but see how sharp the picture is, even at 100%. The focus is fast and very quiet, which is something I've grown so used to that other lenses just creep me out (like the Canon 18-200 and the miserable 18-55 kit-lens).

The Canon 7D ships with the 15-85mm as standard - I can understand why.
