Hello, I made a paladin in 2007 and then only played 3 months, I started playing WoW again last year and my Paladin is really weak.. Could it be because I did not take th professions seriously? I did not do any of the professions, like mining and blacksmithing.. Could this be the reason? Every time I do dungeons, the weirdo players who have some DPS patch keeps ranting that I do not do enough damage... Wtf?

More likely, you just are not geared right for your spec and level. Small changes in gear often have high increases in damage. Playing melee is also complicated through our bad latency etc, and you will really need to be on the ball with rotations etc.
Caster rotations are often more simpler and at least a lot of movement is reduced.
Getting professions right will only boost you marginally, all professions at the high end have more or less a balanced contribution to dps...

Hmm...honestly, you probably need to learn the class better and learn your rotations.

You'll need to do some reading up on the class (check http://elitistjerks.com/f76/t110342-retribution_concordance_4_3_voice_dps/)

Agreed. Also it may help to get an addon called recount or skada to just do some before-and-after tests to see if you are getting better or to see if the changes you are making are making you better or worse. Also will let you test your DPS on target dummies without having to worry about outside influences (ie things moving).

There should be very little time when you are doing nothing. Most dps is lost due to slow pressing of buttons and/or just the completely wrong rotation/priority list. So this is paramount.

Gear influences your potential dps, but I don't agree with people blaming their gear 100% for their bad DPS. I've seen well geared DPS who are absolute baddies when it comes to DPS, and I've seen averaged geared people doing all they can to reach their DPS potential for their gear.

And regarding proffs, they will maybe alter your DPS by about 5%.

Read elitistjerks for more info regarding reforging and stat priority too, they play a decent role in your DPS.

Ive got a couple of 85`s, but the paladin is the one I play the least. I was kinda expecting more from the class and was let down. The DPS was dismal :( I think anyone who comes off a mage will say the same thing though. Starting to eye out a huntard now.

Suit the action to the word, the word to the action, with this
special observance, that you o'erstep not the modesty of nature:
for any thing so o'erdone is from the purpose of playing, whose
end, both at the first and now, was and is, to hold as 'twere the
mirror up to nature: to show virtue her feature, scorn her own
image, and the very age and body of the time his form and
pressure.
