I was always with Vodacom. 2 years ago cheap pricing from Cell C convinced me to port across and sign a contract - 2yrs of hell followed.
This morning at 5:40am, I woke up to find an sms from Cell C saying I had been convertd to prepaid (after giving Autopage the compulsory month's notice). I went to a Vodacom shop at 9am sharp and asked a sales lady to please port me to Vodacom prepaid. She did something on the pc and asked me to give her the One Time Pin which was sms'ed to me. She then asked me to take a walk in the mall and come back when I receive a second sms.
5 minutes of walking and I received an sms stating that my port request was OK'ed by my network (aka Cell C willing to let me go). I went back to the lady and she RICA'ed a sim card and took my R10 for the new sim.
This evening at 7:35pm, I noticed my handset with Cell C sim still in said "Emergency Calls Only". I swapped out the sim and stuck my Vodacom sim in. The next hour services slowly came online. Initially I couldn't receive sms'es or calls but I could load airtime. I also couldn't register on vodacom.co.za to see balances and my account. Just over an hour later I received an SMS welcoming me to VODACOM. I could then register on the site and the android app and all in/out calls and sms's worked.
I am very impressed with the whole experience. Today while waiting for the port I really searched hard to try and find a timeline like I have just posted - hopefully someone will find this useful when they port across to Vodacom.
