MyBB Motorcycle Owners Thread (2nd gear)

They would do this for you so just ask them.

But seriously where is the adventure in that.

Fly Down on a cheap flight nice and early or stay with family/mates.

Ride out to De Rust or Beaufort West (Wagon Wheel cheap cheap) day 1.

Day 2 Colesberg (Die Klei Pot)

Day 3 home.

Run in mileage all done and do the first service and know all the intricacies of the bike.

I seem to recall it’s around R3500 or so last I heard. But be prepared to get your brand new bike filthy and weathered on the back of an open trailer for days.

Sounds like a fun way to spend a weekend.

Long ride though and double the cost in terms of transporting and service cost.
I have to think about it, going to contact the dealer to get a shipping quote so long.

So... Make the ride longer and take the back roads? Use a week worth of leave. Take a back pack with a tent and camp your way back.

What would a plane ticket be? R1500? Then camping is like R100 per night. Fuel will be dependant on a lot of factors. Then food, but you were' gonna eat during that time anyway, so meh. Call it R2k transport costs and you're winning.

Or, buy a plane ticket for @UrBaN963 and let him ride it back.

yeah, I wouldn’t run a new bike in on a monotonous long trip (constant revs, same gear, little load/unloading etc)

Executing a four corners road trip can also be an option.

Are you buying the bike to ride it? Or to look at it?

https://maps.app.goo.gl/yx7M3e8NRtsKq9u2A - 430km from Cape Town - R600 odd.

OR

https://maps.app.goo.gl/SHqipqA7QNXNTxym6 - 450km odd but kak boring road - R900 odd.

THEN

https://maps.app.goo.gl/D8hpTa7cGaP1npeX8 - 480km from De Rust - R1200 odd but you could find other places cheaper in Colesberg I'm sure but not as nice, also cheap as chips restaurant.

Next stop I don't know from a touristy point of view, I stayed with family in Sasolburg but I came down from Nelspruit last time and I'm assuming you are heading to Pretoria/Jo'burg.

Hundreds of options though, I wouldn't recommend pushing straight through.

You forget all of that and you "run it in" for the first 100km just to bed the brakes in and settle the tyres.

And then you smash it.

If there is any reason to avoid it the N1 is just boring as ****, hence why I recommended De Rust as it's been the break-in route for pretty much every one of my bikes.

@Zuner I'll do you one better even.

If you do buy it here and want to ride it up and take any route that isn't the N1 I'll even join you for the first day out and we can have a braai and a few beers at the end and I'll send you on your way the next day.

No spooning.
50% chance Sauron does it in a car.

Thanks for the offer, Really appreciate that, You may not realise it, but you helped me buy my first bike 8 years ago, when i bought the ER6 and here you are again.

Dealing with saleman (Dylan) at Droomers, way better than the JHB saleman, he sent me videos of the bike without me even asking, got the Quote of 4k bike delivered by next weekend. Not trying to BS me into rushing the sale like they did in JHB.
I think i'm going to go with that, Flying down and riding up comes in at more than double that cost, and i would really like to get a decent tank pad and tail tidy and maybe mirrors, Think i'll have to save up for an exhaust but thats not urgent for me.

Vehicle salesmen are the worst. I have been trying to buy a car since Wednesday last week, they still haven't had it available to view. Were going to bring it by yesterday and didn't. Terrible communication...like man, do you want my money because I'm trying to give it to you.

Exactly, I went there trying to give them my money, apparently they didn't want it.

I checked flysafair - if you fly on a thursday its like R1500 for the flight. Call it R2k for fuel? Skip the toll roads. Take a tent and moto camp your way up, I can't see how that would be more than even the R4k they are quoting, never mind double.

I used next friday flight was 2.8k
checked prices for accomodation at the places SauRoNZA mentioned, was 800+1000 if i recall, over and above the costs you mentioned, there's ubers to the airport and to the dealer, there's the costs of the 1st service which will happen immediatelly when i get back, vs a few months (I WFH so don't travel much these days). The obvious food and snacks etc, it adds up fast, I'd much rather save myself the back hurt and get a tank pad and tail tidy instead.

Yeah, but riding it up is part of the adventure and a great way to bond with the bike
