So I bought 2 poet's pens. Only 10% AS rolls, not the full 12% as I couldn't quite afford them and I wasnt 100% sure I would like the builds too much.
Messed with some stuff, but finally settling into a Projectile damage character, and running through all of the Projectiles. Also using Thresholds as that is a way to turn the 3link wands into a 4 link.

Only level 44 or so. So I have still got a long ways to go to complete this. But so far I am going Scion with Ranger/Deadeye for the extra Proj and Proj damage. Then I cant decide between Witch Elementalist, Marauder Berserker, or Shadow Assassin.

The dmg is nice so far though. Using either EK with Ring of blades or Spark with its threshold to apply a projectile based nova dmg. Which is to ensure that my positioning is not too important for the general trash. or if spawns sneak up behind.
Then I am currently toying between Freezing Pulse and Frozen Orb. With the mad amounts of Proj speed that I already have, and will still increase more with the Deadeye ascendant path, either of those works really well. Freezing pulse is already off screening and I still have 60% proj speed to get.

Here is a path of building link to my planned character. it does not have skill gems and gear planned out fully as I just dont know where I will settle. Any thoughts would be great.

I have the frenzy charges in my build because I plan to generate them somehow. Possibly going Frenzy as my attack skill, but right now the extra attacks with Barrage, combined with life on hit is just so good at keeping my HP topped, without Life Leech investment.
I will also aim for around 0.25 attack speed or so, Which I am damn close to already. But if I can reach say 0.19 or less, I might consider taking a support gem out per wand and having 4 actives in total. Will see how that testing goes.

I dont even know which auras to use. I can quite easily put my main attack on blood magic and everything else on mana reservation or CWDT, so I potentially have 100% of my mana to play with there. Might go super defensive and run 3 purities. Just dont know yet.

Why not the usual of volatile dead?

This will let you down after Act 7 or so. My league starter was a Poet's Pen, went with EK and phys wander, this way I could scale both types of damage with shared nodes (projectile damage, spell damage). Overall I think blade fall works out better.

I am currently running my 4th character of the league which is based on the pencromancer (from the creator of Poet's Pen) and that is working quite well. Although levelling with VD/Unearth feels quite faster, the indirect defence from Summon Skeletons is nice.

Was a fun league. I am pretty much done now.

Just have to finish a few lab runs and lich kills for my grind.

Didn't do as well as I did last league.

I started using that pencromancer type build, I think at least. One that included the 5 skele mages summoned. Just wasn't sold on the playstyle.

As far as VD is concerned. It wouldn't work with this build as it is all proj dmg, practically no spell dmg except for the gear and wands themselves.

My idea with this build was to eventually reach a point where I could have 4 spells socketted in total. So just going massive attack speed and proj dmg. So basically I scale dmg by adding more spells as my attack speed breaks the 0.25s timer.

I wanted to start with a Bladefall build, using spell cascade. Because the screen coverage is beautiful. But Proj is where I am going at the moment.
Will see how the dps goes after act 7. I think that lvl 75 is where I will know if I am going to continue or not. That will be +3 spell levels and by then I will have loads of attack speed, so I will see if I have enough to do 4 spells or if 2 is working well.

Ah that one. Okay I heard of that one. How are you finding it?

I am still levelling, not much higher level than you at the moment;

Downside

Slower gameplay compared to my wander
Only sustain is LGoH

Upside

The skeletons provide distraction for mobs/bosses, so LGoH is fine.

Very cheap, 2 Poet's Pens (bought one for 7c in beginning of the league, found one last week)
Cospri's for additional curse and poison to enable vile toxins (45% more damage at 9 poisons) using culling strike in the meantime.

Going to spec into MoM soon so will have 1.3k life, and I think about 1.2k mana not even lvl 45 yet.

The skeleton distraction makes playing a lot easier, which is something that is not apparent when looking at other Pen builds (VD/BF/EK)

So... how difficult is T15 Elder going to be? Seeing how that is where to chose to spawn...

I like the fact that it uses cospri's. I have wanted to do a Cospri's build for a long time now.

I have a few more defences in this build than most normal Pen builds i think. Or I will have by the end. Freezing Pulse is great defensively. Will have all of my mana to reserve most likely, I could easily get all 3 purities in. Or 2 and an enfeeble blasphemy. Still figuring out what I want to do with this one. I think a really fast attack speed might be achievable, in which case something like 4 active skill gems and 1 support might work well. Probably frozen orb and arctic breath. Then consider frostbite curse or something. Maybe take the phys to cold dmg conversion nodes for the EK nova.

Anyway, just spitballing right now. rambling away.

I believe that for every skill in use when DW, you need 2 APS in order for the procs to work correctly. If you have too many, it will not proc the skills correctly, and if you have a lot more than needed, it actually breaks the mechanic. Tarkecat has a video of this up on youtube and there might be a forum post on this as well.

One thing to keep in mind.

Thanks for that, I will keep it in mind. Got the lightpoacher helmet and the aoe clear was already amazing before, now it is godly. Single target is slowing up though. I mean single target for bosses. It still clears abyss yellows faster than my ED char was at this point. So it is really only the act bosses that are sometimes being a bit slow.

I think I might change to that Skele DP build though. I played the DP totem build last league and I remember killing Brine king in about 1 second per phase. I figure that the skele DP build might be similar

It pains me to say this, but I'm struggling to enjoy PoE as much as I used to. It's still without a doubt the best game I've ever played though.

I don't like how trading and playing the trading game is a 'shortcut' to extreme power so quickly, and if you play the trading game correctly, extreme wealth - With the game necessarily being balanced around these realities. Shaped mapping, sextants and now sticking Elder Guardians onto static maps are not systems I like. Of course I don't need to play that way, but my attempt this league to unlock the whole Atlas was/is just an absolute exercise in frustration.

I also think GGG need to slow down, and work on expanding on and improving existing systems (prophecies, etc) and also do a comprehensive polish and balance cycle. I am aware that this doesn't fit into their business model and that they are of course constantly adding and improving in any event.

Anyway, it's hard to articulate, but the reality is, I'm just not inclined to play much, which sucks.

And to make matters worse, is to find a game with comparable experience in terms of isometric ARPG

I often feel the same way Copa. It is a sad feeling when you think that away about a game that you know is really fantastic. I think it is about the time investment on playing the game vs time investment on playing the market. The former lets you enjoy the actual game, but you need to do the latter in order to have the power to enjoy the ENTIRE game.
You sort of have to have both the time and the enjoyment of both aspects of the game in order to succeed. And if you cannot enjoy the market fiddling, then you cannot really enjoy the whole game.

There's nothing remotely comparable, that's for sure. I'm actually considering trying out Median XL again - That's a damned lot of fun.

Yeah, you've kind of hit the nail on the head there. I don't know how they would bridge the divide between the casuals (someone like me) and those who take advantage of the various systems in an ideal way. I mean the difference there is vast. I've got a 15 or so Exalt character this league at this point, I have unlocked 95% of my Atlas, and I can't even grind up to Guardian maps (well, I've got one so far) and the Shaper will probably still easily murder me. Then you've got people running around with Headhunters and buying mirrors already.

Don't get me wrong though. Love the damned game, and I'm not jealous of those who succeed in that way - I just wish playing the game in a slightly less linear and ideal way was a bit more rewarding. The War for the Atlas gave me hope in that respect, until gluing down the guardians became a thing and obviated the whole point of the system as I understood it.
