There's nothing remotely comparable, that's for sure. I'm actually considering trying out Median XL again - That's a damned lot of fun.

Yeah, you've kind of hit the nail on the head there. I don't know how they would bridge the divide between the casuals (someone like me) and those who take advantage of the various systems in an ideal way.

Standard. I only play league until I get the MTX I want or league uniques, and then I switch back. Demigodkinglol made this point as well in one of his yt vids, why play league, when your wealth and legacy items is in standard, and where you have more of a choice.

I have absolutely no desire to play standard, as the power problem that bothers me, is only going to be far worse there. Not to mention the read-only tab nightmare of like 3 years of accumulated league tabs (which is like 40 or 50 per league). In any event, I'm playing a bit of SSF in Abyss at the moment, and it's a nice change of pace. I forgot how hard the game actually is with a fresh start, no ability to buy the gear you need and no leveling items. If I get into it, I'd happy have my SSF persist into Standard.

Yeah, you've kind of hit the nail on the head there. I don't know how they would bridge the divide between the casuals (someone like me) and those who take advantage of the various systems in an ideal way. I mean the difference there is vast. I've got a 15 or so Exalt character this league at this point, I have unlocked 95% of my Atlas, and I can't even grind up to Guardian maps (well, I've got one so far) and the Shaper will probably still easily murder me. Then you've got people running around with Headhunters and buying mirrors already.

Don't get me wrong though. Love the damned game, and I'm not jealous of those who succeed in that way - I just wish playing the game in a slightly less linear and ideal way was a bit more rewarding. The War for the Atlas gave me hope in that respect, until gluing down the guardians became a thing and obviated the whole point of the system as I understood it.

Sorry do you mean you cant farm them because your dying ? or not getting map drops. Is the char gear worth 15 ex?

So just a comment from the peanut gallery with reference to what copacetic is feeling.

I personally think this isn't a problem related just to PoE but more in relation to the state of PC gaming in general (or the genre specifically). You unfortunately have 1 of 2 mechanisms in play the first being a high RNG environment or a static item environment.

Of late most developers have moved away from static items, I think Dark Souls is the only game that currently utilises this (not sure, haven't played it), as it eventually enforces a cookie cutter build playstyle where everyone runs to kill boss X because it drops item Y for Z build.

The problem with the RNG mechanism is that it is doomed to create discontent amongst the player base. You either have tons of time available to farm and force drop the items you want or you simply can't keep up. It does not encourage casuals to actually partake as you feel more and more despondent when you see what the farmers are able to do or even worse when you see RNG actually work out for another casual. At the start of this league I was checking reddit a lot and I there was someone who posted a screenshot of their great find on day 3 or 4 being Mirror on their Necromancer. This basically sets them up for the entire league if they so wanted. Most player though will never have that luck unless they farm ad infinitum.

This effect is compounded by trading as the farmers are able to generate enough raw currency to control the market where as the casuals are doing what they can to get by. Its easy to make money via trading once you have a bit of a slush fund to work with, this is unfortunately not what most casuals can do and further frustration is created by trying to maximise the couple of chaos you can find in one or 2 hours to try and improve your gear of which the price is possibly increasing.

The alternative to the above is to go back to a skill based system where items offer very small benefits. Something like the old Ultima Online. This however excludes a large portion of the player base who do it for the trading unless you focus on rare cosmetics.

Not really, I just agree with that statement he made, otherwise what is the point in getting all the T1 gear every league?

I have around 5000 exalt worth of gear in standard mainly legacy rares, and some good legacy uniques. I can't replicate that type of gameplay in any league.

Fair enough, not sure what I have against std really. I have tonnes of nice characters I could mess about on.

Guess its just the stigma that standard is for plebs, or at least that it is what i was told when I started playing...

Now its just kinda set in my mind that way.

Stupid really.

I think so, the main thing is for example, you can't get legacy crit amulets (60%+) in league, my favourite is a TS RotC double legacy, (almost perfect damage, and 4 additional arrows), legacy crit gear (amulet and +1 quiver).

The only thing is now, the new mods from shaper and elder, should make some of the legacy gear not worth it looking at the x3 damage amulets, and apparently you can get a 1000 dps 2h-axe now.

Leagues is fun, except harbringer, did not enjoy it, on the fence about abyss. Standard, is great for pick up and go.

I have the same problem.
Im very casual, the effort to put into farming these items or currency required is insane.
I resorted to currency guides and tricks used by other players to take base items and mod them.
I have been lucky enough to find one or 2 higher value cards and made 1 6 link.
Other than that I still enjoy the game very much and every new league trying new builds.

I mean it really depends on builds and how you want to play it. Some builds are dirt easy to do end game with like totems. Very easy play style but other are expensive. You dont need a headhunter but it can be fun having one. I just play it like I want to and whats fun for me

Agree completely, relally enjoying the current character build. With that I have it works fine but to optimize will need about 10 ex min.
after a few maps I mod the drops and pray to the RNG gods for a good gift :D

Hey Guys,

So with my league coming to an end (Will still play but just for fun now), wondered if anyone would be interested in a few of the techniques I used to generate currency.

Got my ED Trickster to level 80 in SSF Hardcore Abyss. Quite satisfying to be able to make it solo.

Used a combination of the following -

1: caer blaidd Farming - First you shape your atlas for Vaults and Shaped Burial Chambers. So no other T8 or T9. Then you chain these for days. They are cheap as chips and there is an infinite supply of them. I paid no more than 3c per map. Each map I would get on average 2 - 3 Vaults as well as 2 - 3 Shaped Burial Chambers. The vaults were selling for 40/10 and the Burial chambers the same. That is guaranteed profit. Then you take into account the nice IIQ and IIR on the map itself 150%/150%. I dropped a bisco's, 2 Shavs, exalts, etc while farming the maps. This was by far the best money maker for me this league.
2: Uber lab - Yes very obvious I know. However I have never run lab more than was required to get my ascendancy points up until now. The money you can make from lab is sickening. I got numerous T1 enchants, I got 2 x 3 Molten strike proj, 4 x Barrage proj, 3 x Volatile dead +1, Etc so as this is obvious to some, for you those of you unsure if lab is worthwhile to farm, is sure is. Over and above the enchants the chests are great!!! The number of 20% gems I got with levels is insane! Drops those in a 20c tab and they sell for days.
3: Flipping - Also obvious, however I didn't bother with difficult things this league. I picked 6 distinct items and flipped these only. 16% IIQ Sadimas, set your whoop up at 1c max buyout, 100's come up at this price, resell any day of the week for 10c. Healthy Mind jewels, with the new RF Mana Guardian build. The 20% jewel sells for around 20c. The lower rolls for an alch, 85% of people just toss the 20% up at an alch, ez flip. Etc. If you guys want more on this let me know.
4: Div card turn ins: I did at least 80 sets of "Pride before the fall" this league, it is guaranteed profit of 20 - 30c if you get a bottom fire damage roll, and up from there. I only managed to get 1 "+1 max res" corruption but that netted me 20ex profit. Also There are other div card sets with guaranteed profits let me know if I should bother to expand on those.
5: Splinters - Flipped Chayula splinters, bought tonnes at 10-22c and resold at 10-30c.

None of this is ground breaking stuff. Just thought I'd share.
