Leveling up the wander now. Dual Poets Pen seems pretty fun for leveling from lvl12. Will use Freezing Pulse and Frost Bolt and make a beeline for 4 jewel sockets whilst leveling so that I can enhance them with threshold jewels.

Tested out a few builds this weekend with GG mirror gear. Kinetic Blast is decent but single target seems very bad. The nerf to 100% pierce also makes it feel worse than it used to for clearing. Self cast EK nova is great with even more damage than Kinetic Blast. No issues there but single target could get better.

Think I'm going to settle for a Poet's Pen Shadow Assassin build with 4L EK in the wand and Barrage in my 6L. 4L EK should be good enough with all my gear and Barrage will be great single target. Thing's get pretty mad with Headhunter. I'm using:

- Poets Pen
- Crown of Eyes (Could also use Lightpoacher here for some more AOE clear but will lose the extra damage and leech for my barrage)
- Headhunter
- Shavronne's Wrappings (legacy)
- Mirror ES boots (legacy)
- Mirror ES shield (legacy) (spell crit and spell damage version)
- Facebreaker with legacy 90% crit multi and elemental weakness on hit corruption
- Dream Fragments (cannot be frozen/chilled useful for strongboxes and in general. Mana regen good)
- Rare ring with ES and legacy ES% mod
- Amulet (Not sure yet. Probably Presence of Chayula)

Jewels:
- Legacy EK nova jewel
- Legacy Energy from Within jewel x2
- Inspired Learning x1

Flasks:
- Quicksilver flask (perfect with legacy crit mod)
- Taste of Hate (perfect legacy)
- Atziri's Promise (perfect legacy)
- The Wise Oak (perfect legacy)
- Sins rebirth or legacy Vessel of Vinktar (not sure yet)

I am half way through leveling an elemental wander Deadeye. I used the poet's pen with a single curse and increased area, poachers mark for the mana and hp sustain and frenzy charges. Then the cold dmg conversion nodes on the skill tree. The hyrmsorrow gloves would have been a good option too, but just threw some gear together.
Then rocked the Herald of ice and Hatred. With a bit of added flat phys dmg here and there, poet's pens work perfectly well as a scaling attack based wand too. Stuck a shield in the other side, no need to dual wield. I guess I could have put in some kind of projectile based spell with supports into a second poe'ts but I never really felt like I needed it.
Tabula with both Barrage and Kinetic Blast with the same 4 supports and just use KB for everything and Barrage whenever there isn't a handy wall around.

Has been fun so far. Deadeye works well because of the massive peircing stuff she gets for two points in the ascendancy tree.

Yeah Poet's Pen is amazing for leveling before maps. No need to even build around it because the damage is enough to clear. What I've found though is that the single target is lacking vs bosses in maps. Even with my setup above with GG gear. That or they have seriously buffed bosses HP. Ran a few T10 maps and felt like I was not doing much damage at all to the bosses. This is with 150k dps barrage and 100k damage EK nova in Path of Building both going off at once.

After looking at a few ascendancies I want to now try a Chieftain totem build. Mainly for the totem leech applies to me. Thinking about maybe a Chin Sol + Skirmish quiver with either Tornado Shot or Siege Ballista. Will have 3 totems with Ancestral Bond. Can also stay on the left of the tree and go Blood Magic whilst using a few Lioneye's Fall jewels to convert melee damage to bow damage.

Edit got another idea:

Dual Wield Touch of Anguish with Blade Flurry CWC Magma Orb. Gloomfang amulet for extra damage per chain and another chain. So 3 + 2 + 1 = 6 chains. Also maybe with an Assassin + poison focused build with Volkuur's Guidance gloves for fire damage can poison. Or maybe skip poison and go Quad spell totem with Hierophant.

Edit 2:
Saw that I have a Ngamahu Flame axe in my stash. Never actually tried it before. So I quickly put together a cyclone build with an old Duelist. It feels really smooth to play and map clear is insanely fast. Using the following:

Ngamahu Flame weapom
The Covenant body (for Cyclone blood magic so can reserve all mana and not worry about sustain. Extra link too)
Devoto's Devotion helm
Hrimburn for full elemental conversion with ele weakness on hit corruption
Headhunter
Daressos Salute amulet for the extra range and damage on full life/speed
Rare rings and rare boots for resists and life
GG flasks

Went RT, VP and took Slayer for the leech and cull
Hatred, Herald of Ash and Herald of Ice auras. Herald of Ice doesn't do too much because I don't shatter mobs so will swap out for something else.

So after playing around with a few characters I went back to my old 20k ES CWC Essence Drain build. Things that have changed immensely:

- poison almost useless unless I spend a whole bunch of points and gear on it. Not worth it anymore.
- bosses seem to have much more HP and hit harder with tough mods. Some of them one-shot my 5k life slayer build with tough mods.
- pack density has been improved significantly. Easier to get pack size on maps now too. Alch and go works better. Also awesome for chaining through the map with Essence Drain and Contagion.
- Sextants nerfed so no need to stick to shaped maps anymore. Used to focus on T13 Shaped Shore maps loaded with sextants as well as Zana Breach. Not worth it anymore.

Wither CWC? Proccing the ED I guess, but what about the Contagion?

Assassin is the poison master now, its baked into the ascendancy.
Bosses were buffed considerably. T1 to T15. T16 stayed as it was when introduced.
5k life slayer?? That's crazy talk. Slayers should have 6,5k+ easy. My bow Raider has 5,5k life.

I used mostly uniques with the Slayer. The only rares are two ****ty resist rings and resist boots. Also no Kaoms as I'm using The Covenant for blood magic.

CWC setup is:

Wither + CWC + Essence Drain + Contagion + Void Manipulation + Controlled Destruction.

Hold down one button and the screen is cleared. Also have every chaos and damage over time node on the tree whilst having 20k ES (Standard legacy gear). Reason for CWC is ease of use as well as it's cheap. So with one Elreon amulet I cast for free so no need for sustain. Can run any map mod this way as well. Will post PoB link when at home.

I dabbled with self cast Essence Drain and Contagion but mana cost is heavy and having to alternate clicks/buttons to kill gets tedious. No regen and slower regen maps also become nearly impossible to play.

Edit: I made this video of the build a year ago:

Was testing out a Frostbolt totem build yesterday. Chieftain + Blood Magic + Cold to Fire + Xoph's Blood. 100% fire damage with 3 totems. Frostbolts shoot out 9 projectiles without GMP.

+4 from threshold jewels
+2 from Dying Sun
+2 from Rain of Splinters

Pretty insane clearing and fairly safe too because the totems leech for me.

Just filling up my Atlas and decided to do a T16 Chimera. What is up with the mobs in there? The boss was easy enough but when I got t0 the additional mobs stage they one shot my Slayer instantly before I can even attack. The only damage mod was 100% added lightning damage. I know 5k life isn't great but I used all 5 portals and didn't even get a chance to attack them lol..

Was doing some leveling with my CI Essence Drain character. Almost lvl100 now. lvl99.87. Had one death a while ago with this character so far when it got locked in a stun animation in the middle of a breach. Game bugs out like this at times when clicking directly on a mob and can replicate the bug easily.

I was looking at some of the items that came out of Abyss League. Abyss jewels are OP because you can make any weapon work with it. Lots of flat damage available. Was thinking of something like dual-wielding three white socket Prismatic Eclipses and stacking Abyss items and jewels. Using those with Cyclone and Headhunter should give pretty insane and fun mapping.

Vaal skill gems now grant the regular and the Vaal version of the skill
And a bunch of other changes to Vaal skills that I'm too lazy to type since I can't access PoE from my work machine
Vaal skill meta incoming!

Main Changes to Vaal Skills:

  • Vaal Skill Gems now grant the regular and the Vaal version of the skill. This is to remove the socket pressure that Vaal skills suffered from, so you no longer have to give up an Aura, Herald, Triggered Skill or a well-linked secondary skill, and you can justify using a Vaal gem in your best set of linked sockets.
  • Unique and Rare enemies now grant souls to Vaal Skills as they lose life. Longer fights will generate more Vaal souls for your skills. We'll reveal the exact mechanics once we're completely happy with them. Most Vaal skills couldn't be used more than a couple of times on bosses until this change, and couldn't be used at all on stand-alone encounters like Izaro. You won't be able to use them as frequently as in the past when killing lots of enemies, but they'll still play a part and have an impact on boss fights.
  • Vaal Skills now prevent gaining Vaal souls for a short duration when used. This change was made so that we no longer need to balance Vaal skills around their ability to generate their soul cost back again when killing many enemies. Because of this change, we can increase the power and reduce the soul cost of many Vaal skills.
  • Vaal skills no longer have higher soul costs after your encounters with Kitava. With other changes, Vaal skills no longer need to get more expensive as you start encountering larger monster packs.
  • Vaal Souls are now stored per skill, rather than per gem. This is to prevent you having multiple copies of the same Vaal skill gem and switching the gems out mid-fight.
  • The Ancestral Call Support can no longer support Vaal skills. The same is still true of Multistrike Support and Spell Echo Support. This is something we'll reassess in future, but at the moment duplicating Vaal skill effects causes too many technical, performance and balance problems.
