MyBB Path of Exile Intro, FAQ, Chat and Players

Hi all. I've recently started played PoE, committed to put in a more serious effort than in the past (cancelled the WoW sub, so now I have a lot more time to invest into something complicated, and D4's repetitiveness and LE's stability and performance issues made me move on quickly).

It's awesome that we have a local server, but I have some weird things happening in the game at times and was wondering if anyone has the same problems. Around 50% of the time, when transitioning to a new area (either through waypoint or portal), my game's latency would constantly spike 200-400ms and back down. The ping graph looks like jagged mountains. I'd have to basically rezone and hope it fixes it (95% of the time it does), then back down to 20ms (this means I lose a portal immediately on a map).

There are also lag spikes when I hit an enemy with an attack, or when some mechanics/events occur. I've died so many times due to this, and it's making me quite irate. The most annoying one was the pirate commandeered my ship, so went to fight him. When he spawned his waves the first time, I got lag spikes, pushed into the watery wall thingies and died. Good bye 2mil load and all my expensive sailors. I swore a lot. A lot.

It seems the game has its own poorly optimised code issues? Or is it our local server? Is it my ISP? Is it my brain? Have I played too much PoE and am losing the plot? The only thing I can think of to do now is to play maybe D4 and see if I have similar issues with lag spikes... but then I have to play D4 again.
There has been a problem with one specific server that creates instances since league launch,
There is a big thread on the PoE technical forums talking about it, link: https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3537127 .
In the evening/weekends If you open a map and get that specific server you will lag out as soon as you attack something.

No word from GGG yet but if you can add a response to that thread every bit helps.
