We have a few locals living in the UK - and thus the Immigrating to the UK thread sometimes goes off topic (From immigration) And, yes, "immigration" is the correct term, so don't start that kak here. :ROFL:

This thread is for all of us in the UK (Or soon to be) to post tips, share stories, and general chit chat on UK life as a Saffer. Also where to find those good local Saffer shops to get good braai spices etc - and to of course complain about UK weather

Calling the regular's (That I know of) who are already in the UK

@Dave (Yes, @rietrot - he really is in the UK, sorry if that upsets you)
@Sinbad
@The Voice
@Tman*
@gregmcc

I'm sure there are others, too I've missed.

With that out the way, I'll kick things off.

Emigrating to the UK in just over two weeks time; all sorts of emotions at the moment and looking forward to the new chapter in our lives. First thing on the list will be getting a bank account sorted. I've decided I'll just go with whoever really and switch later on if I am not happy - since I am told switching is easy and pretty much "automated"

it's not "automated"
it's automated.

So, I just change banks... and don't need to tell anyone? No updating bank details with employer etc?
You do a current account switch, yup.
They leave a "forward" in place for your old account so anyone who doesn't get the message, still transacts successfully.

I've told my employer but that was more from lack of trust in the process and not wanting my mortgage payment to bounce :D

So to vote tomorrow, do we go to the same place as the local elections the other week?

Don't think I have received anything on post stating where I should go.
