Don't get thread page numbers on mobile. Only get whatever page that opens.

Click on "view full forums" at the bottom of the page.
When the Full Forum loads, go to the bottom left, there a drop-down menu, select "old mobile"

Regularly. I'd say their timeout settings are too aggressive - far more reliable, tho not perfect, on my wifi connection.

Still has major issues on mine... wish it would just save my credentials so I don't have to log in again every time tapatalk falls over.
It is very buggy with images too - funny pictures thread just spews out random images from the page, not always the ones in the posts.

Works better on Wifi than 3G for sure. I suspect tapatalk's timeout settings are a bit too aggressive.

It takes ages to log into the app and to open up the forums.

Is that a problem with the app or crappy BIS on MTN?

Under settings it says 'Autoload forum - Automatically loads up forum when logging in. Disabling this option can significantly increase login speed'
Check that this is disabled on yours.
