I apologize for the DB connection problems this morning. We are investigating the problem and will give details about the issues soon. Initial indications suggest a special type of DDoS attack using the forum search functionality, but it is too early to confirm this.

This is not a full DDoS attack - a rather specific type of attack - will give more info when we can confirm this is what happened.

Done already for most users (only senior members can search).

The search function is, however, used for latest posts etc. Hence it can be a pain to disable it completely.

Last week I was nearly tarred and feathered when searched was disabled. I also did not fully understand how widely it was used.
