MyChoice Topup Data Question

I am trying to help a friend who has just got a Huawei E220 modem on a 24month MyChoice Topup 75 contract at R99 pm. from MTN. I have been sent from 141 to 808 to 1555 without being able to get an answer to this question. On the 6th of each month he receives a credit of R75 airtime which used as data converts to 37 MB. Can this credit be used to purchase data bundles (which offer better value for data use)? If he buys additional airtime can this be converted to a data bundle? Or is the only solution to buy an extra PAYG sim on which he can add data bundles?
Apologies if this has been asked before but I could not find an answer.

It is ridiculous that one cannot get answers by calling the help lines. MTN why aren't your staff properly trained?

I have a MyChoice 75 (not the top-up), I cannot use the R75 credit towards a bundle, but adding a data bundle reduces the out-of-bundle rate, so I get more megabytes out of the remaining R75 once the bundle is depleted.
Also, any unused balance of the R75 gets carried over to the next month. I have not been able to establish for how many months it carries over, every person at MTN I ask has a different answer.
