MyGica ATV585 - Showmax not working

Hoping someone here will have a solution we haven't thought of yet.

We got the MyGica ATV585 just after the new year, and still haven't been able to get Showmax to work.
We have tried updating, factory reset, have followed the instructions given here: http://www.syntech.co.za/newsbytes/technical/mygica-showmax-update/
Installed the firmware update both manually and automatically.
No joy. Showmax app is still saying the device is rooted.

Our next plan was to try and format completely, download a different version of Android and install that, or find an older version of the Showmax app somewhere and set it so that it doesn't update.

Think this might work?

Anyone have any ideas?

Really getting desperate, as it's a waste of subscription fees at the moment.

Must be a bug in Showmax app software. My Netflix is working fine but on Showmax I'm getting the same error message.

Well, I can tell you what I did with my 585 to get Showmax working but you're not gonna like it...

...I got a Chromecast. I just had too many issues with the MyGica. Only thing it's useful for is running Kodi (for the most part anyway).

But if you do manage to get past the "device is rooted" problem I'd love to know what you did.

Mygica has a fix to unroot the device.

We have tried the firmware update (fix)... didn't work.

Tried an older version of the Showmax app last night. Installed it to an external hard drive, and ran it off there. It worked, until we rebooted the MyGica (it was very slow), then we had the same issue, saying device is rooted.

Just an update on my issue:

We had to install an older version of Android, as well as an older version of Showmax, and set the MyGica to no allow any automatic updates on anything.
Showmax now works, but as I told the support at MyGica, this is a very bad reflection on them, that they are either unwilling or unable to provide proper fixes for this issue, as we can't now enjoy the full potential of the MyGica, even if our Showmax subscription is no longer going to waste...

Just get a NT-N8 media player as Showmax works out of the box.
It also has double the specs of a Mygica device and cost around R800 with delivery included by TNT/DHL/EMS.
Also supports all the latest 10-bit H264/H265, VP9 formats and runs Marshmallow firmware.
Register with Paypal free return shipping to send more than 10 parcels a year back @R400 free shipping paid by Paypal for peace of mind, everyone should register for this.
Then buy from Aliexpress and get the Plus model.
Ask the seller for your preferred delivery method and Paypal details instead if not wanting to use Alipay.
