MySignal 5.1

An additional button has been added in the Configs section to create a Desktop Icon as this no longer happens at startup.

A bug has been pointed out to me which seems to be in the somewhere in the system.
Maybe some of you boffins out there can help me nail this one down.
If you go and change your logon password you may find you can no longer connect using MySignal.

To test this out, go and change your password.
Now using the original MyWireless Logon Application change the ISP password to your new password... you will be able to logon.
Now logoff and change the Access Password in the Network section to your new password... you will no longer be able to logon.

Basically the ISP Password is the password that the Remote Access Services (RAS) sends to the Server for authentication and the Network Access Password is the password that get written into your modem which Windows stores in your Registry and also in the virtual memory.
This Windows operation is not happening and the original password stays.

With MySignal which only uses one Password, it writes this password to the modem and sends it to the server each time.

So at the end of the day till this problem gets fixed:

In MySignal:
Original Password (P) is the one you have there now or the one you had before upgrading to 4.2.1.8 and you have changed your password since.

In MyWireless Software:
Original Password goes in the Network Access Password.
Any new Password you have goes in the ISP Password.

For those who dont want the installation files and are happy with just the exe

Hi ProAsm, I recently changed my password by changing BOTH the "IP Service" and "Access Service" passwords (both to the same new password) on the password page of the Sentech Member Login site. I didn't have any problem connecting with the new password using MySignal 5.0. I also verified that the supplied dialler also worked with the new password. I am using firmware 4.2.1.6 - are you saying that the problem you describe is only with firmware 4.2.1.8?

Well this is something I need to figure out and yes I'm using 4.2.1.8.
Basically I have been receiving the odd complaint from people having problems connecting using MySignal 5.0 after they change their password, but I did not actually test this myself.
On the 11th of August I received an email from HQ asking me to please change my password as they suspect many (me's) out there with a 512k package - similar to the Mr. Smith senario.
After changing my password I could never logon again, but having ADSL I just did not bother to use MyWi until I figured what was wrong.
So after several calls to confirm that my new password was ok etc I decided it had to be something local with my modem, so while messing around with the original app and setting the 2 passwords, then when offline and using the AT+CGDCONT? command in MySignal to see what password is written to the modem, I figured by putting my old password in the Network section and the new password in the ISP section I could log on and when sending the above command I see my old password inside the modem.
If I try any other combination I cannot logon.
This is the case both here at work (Win98) and at home (WinXp Pro)
If I right now go and put my new password in the Network section, I will not be able to connect.
I get an authentication error.
Friggin wierd.

ProAsm, I didn't realize that the "Network" and "ISP" tabs of the MyWireless Software represented different passwords. Actually, I'm not sure that it does! When I changed my password I just changed it on the "Network" page, and it worked, as did MySignal. I've just tried the MyWireless Software again - Set valid new password on both "Network" and "ISP" pages; Verify that I can connect; Changed password on "ISP" page only to an invalid password ("junk"); Connect failed!; Used MySignal to see that "junk" is in the modem; Set vaild new password on both "Network" and "ISP" pages again; Verify that I can connect again; The valid new password is in the modem; Changed password on "Network" page only to "junk"; Connect failed and "junk" is again in the modem. So this might be confusing things, and the MyWireless software may just be taking the most recently entered password.

Sounds to me like your password hasn't actually been properly changed, and that you are still actually logging on with your old password. Can you login to the Members Login page at https://reg.mywireless.sentech.co.za/register/index.jsp using your new password or your old password? Surely the username and password that is in the modem is what it uses to connect and logon to the network, or does MySignal do some form of high level logon as well, once a physical connection has been established?

To get into the Members Login page, it only accepts my new password.
If I set Net = Newpassword, ISP = Newpassword then I cannot logon - "Authentication failed etc.."
If I set Net = Oldpassword, ISP = Oldpassword then I cannot logon - "Error 678 - No Answer"
If I set Net = Oldpassword, ISP = Newpassword then I can logon no problem.

Using MySignal 5.0
If I use Newpassword I can logon for a short while, maybe 10 seconds and it kicks me off saying Authenication failed - check username/password.
If I use Oldpassword I then get "Error 678 - No Answer"

Now I switch to MySignal 5.1
Original Password : Oldpassword
Logon Password : Newpassword
Bingo - I'm on and everything works great.

Maybe this is a Staff only or Beta Test only problem as the other 2 complaints were beta testers.
Still its friggin wierd [:(]

**Edit**
Using MySignal 5.1 if I set:
Original Password : Newpassword
Logon Password : Newpassword
I logon for 10 seconds and it kicks me off saying Authenication failed - check username/password.

Very wierd! Obviously, both your new and old passwords are active, but in different places. Maybe I'm wrong (I don't know enough about how the whole system fits together), but so far I deduce the following:

1. Since you can login to the member login page using your NEW password, then the Sentech network server password / ISP password / and (I think) the "IP Service" (website password change page) password must be the NEW password.

2. Since the OLD password ends up in the modem, then presumably the IPWireless tower password / Network Access / and (I think) the "Access" (website password change page) password is still the OLD password.

Does MySignal 5.1 send the OriginalPassword=Oldpassword to the modem, and use the LogonPassword=Newpassword for high level network logon to the Sentech servers?

You could try to change the "Access" password on the website password change page to be the same as your new password, and then see if you can use your newpassword for both. Of course, there is a risk, you may never be able to login in ever again <grin>.

Anyway its interesting that you dont have this problem, maybe I should have contacted you first.
So in 5.2 I'll make it an ini only option for people that have this problem (like me) so as not to make it look so complicated [:)]

You didn't comment on my two deductions, but I reckon that your "Access Service" password did not get updated (or propagated) properly when you changed your password. I think that you should first try to change both passwords on the "Change a Password" page of the member login website to something completely different to either your old or new password (but the same password for both). This page has provision for changing both the "IP Service" and "Access Service" passwords. For each one has to enter and re-enter the password. The page is not too explicit about what is required, but I assume that the two unmarked checkboxes have to be ticked as well, for the change to be effective. Hopefully that will solve the problem and you will be able to use just the single password again.
