Have someone figured out what the problem is yet?
It seems the leader of the Opposition was just naive or he is try to hide something. Either way, I do not want him as a leader.

I will help if he disclose to terms of the lease agreement.

It isn't an issue because he declared the asset. What is problematic is that none of them just say this is the case which would make all speculation go away. It is the obfuscating that is making an issue out of what appears to be a non-issue. If you haven't got anything to hide don't act all squirrelly like you do.
Is there a specific parliamentary requirement for him to declare rent along with assets? It will be great to know the exact rules.

yes there is according to the news reports. If the rental is not 'market related' then it has to be reported.

I don't like his politics. But there's nothing here. I don't even see why he should disclose the terms lease agreement.

Yeah - it is tricky one. I think Mmusi mentioned he is paying market related rent but one can say why not disclose it if it is market related.
"According to DA chief whip John Steenhuisen, MPs are only required to disclose leased homes on their declarations of members’ interests if the rent they are paying is not market-related. "

So if it's market related it does not need to be declared.

/waits for zoomzoom to apply it's mind to that one...

sigh I think I have covered it. IF it is market related then he didn't need to declare it. IF it is NOT market-related then he needed to declare it. However this isn't the first time this house has been issue for Maimane as it was 'investigated' in-house by the DA last year and determined that his actions were not 'criminal'. In addition when it was 'uncovered' (read leaked because of the faction fighting) that he reported an asset he did not own, instead of saying 'yes I rent it, but I reported it because I don't pay my buddy any rent when he bought the house for me' (which would have ended the entire thing right there) he decides to bleat on about how the rent is market-related in a fashion that makes him look guilty of hiding something. This is compounded by his friend's refusal to divulge what the rent is citing 'confidentiality', when that can't be an actual thing in this situation given that he is obliged to report the asset if he isn't paying or underpaying on the rent. Maybe he isn't paying rent at all, but the bond. Who knows, but the way they are all acting it is clear that they are hiding something ... or are just epically stupid.

If he were renting it for free, that would actually be a cause for concern.

under the rules - only if he didn't declare it, which he did, which is why it is super weird he isn't just being upfront about it.

It's like the kid before you find out the cookie jar is empty. You ask them some other question and they blurt out 'I didn't touch it', while squirming insanely. You know they did something, but not exactly what it was yet. This is how they are all behaving.

It was obviously a mistake. And now he probably thinks he can't just come out and say he pays R40k rent for it each month as that would just make him look to rich. And he still wants to pretend to be a champion of the poor and a socialist.

I would imagine if he did declare it was 40K a month people would also find issue with that, there's no winning.

Edit: apologies, I see that's pretty much what you said :X3:
