I understand being skelm and under reporting,(hiding assets), but what is the benefit of over reporting?
Perhaps if he state that he owns it, people will not ask questions about the rental agreement.

The parliamentary registry, as many have already been pointed out, there is nothing to gain by overreporting. I am, however, interested as to why this ‘lease agreement’ was listed as an asset, what does the registry exactly ask to dot down? Honest mistake or something is wrongly interpreted here as inconsistencies or there is more to this than reported on.

Inconsistencies, why inconsistencies, what exactly is the newspaper looking in to?

Reading back on Maimane and assets he has listed in the past,

https://citizen.co.za/news/news-eish/1436449/maimane-declares-pencil-holder-one-assets/

Maimane declares a pencil holder as one of his assets

He’s not leaving anything to chance as he also declared three pairs of socks.

It’s that time of year again when we get to have a look at members of parliament’s declaration of assets, which includes supposed admissions of the gifts they received.

he is thorough…

Ok so ask yourself this - why would he lie? People lie to hide stuff. So here are two lies - the lie he owns it, and the lie about how much rent he is paying - a lie the owner is also complicit in because all of them are being squirrelly about it - why compound a lie with another lie if there is nothing to hide?

Maybe he lied about owning to avoid being asked questions about renting it - because when asked about owning it i.e. the first lie was uncovered, he went all defensive about the rent. Maybe he isn't paying any rent at all ... still got no problem with that?

Then they can still ask questions about how he can afford it. Doesn't really make a difference. "Owning" it could even be more expensive.

Not even a little bit.

Politics yeah? we all expect out politicians to be a little bent. If he gets a free roof over his head - fantastic.
If he steals ever single cent in the fiscus, then let him do a Gav.

That's where we differ. I acknowledge that they are, but I expect more of the people who are supposed to represent the best interests of everyone in their care.

Oh and free roof ... speaks to someone paying for influence.

Is he forthcoming about the rental agreement?

Nowhere in the article is there evidence of him having gone defensive about the rent. Read it again. You've confabulated a conversation that you're now citing as evidence of his guilt.

Is that market related within Claremont? I'm guessing no. Also, when did you purchase the property? Is it still valued at R1.8m?

All these questions are irrelevant. Find someone with a property of R4m letting it out at 15k.

I don't see what the big deal is here. And I don't even like or support the DA

No one:

Not even a mouse:

Not even his mother:

Saturnz: I rent my R1.8m house out for R15k, but don't ask questions as that's irrelevant.

Whatever dude.
