MyTV on Public Bouquet

For the past few days I have had the pleasure of watching the MyTv channels on the public bouquet. At first i thought is was a fluke seeing that there were E! Entertainment, FOX, MGM, Nat Geo Adventure, KidsCo, Teletoons, BBC and more.
I checked up on Lyngsat and where they all used to show encrypted a month or so ago, it now shows FTA.
This morning I was surprised to find that my decoder once again displays an E45 Service Verification error as it did in the past when one would 'surf' these FTA channels.
Does anyone know if (and when) these channels MIGHT return - it was quite nice to watch Mulder and Scully again on Fox and the kids loved the 2 cartoon channels.
The MGM movie channel has been beemed to our shores for quite a while now - I recall back in 2001 I accidently tuned into it when playing around with the FTA channels on my DStv decoder. Why can't MC give us access to these channels.
At least I see there is a new Afrikaans channel (ASTV) that launched recently on the public bouquet.

What is this Public Bouquet you are talking about?? What is in Lyngsat, and FTA?

Sorry for the noob questions.. just got DSTV cheap recently as a replacement for my aerial. I'm on the Easyview Bouquet.

MyTV does not have a license to broadcast in South Africa, so it would technically be illegal to open those up on the MC decoders. Strange that it is now FTA. Where is the money coming from for the broadcasting rights? Will check it out.

What I'm saying is that I have no clue what you guys are talkin about. I'm new to DSTV, and don't know what those terms mean.

I've figured out that FTA means Free-To-Air. What is Lyngsat?

And what is this Public Bouquet? Is it something that is free for everyone? Or do you have to be a DSTV subscriber?

Yes I chose to get DSTV with the Easyview Bouquet for R650 once off, and R20 per month, instead of replacing my external TV aerial which was old, rusted and buggered.

So hook me up with some info... I see there is a lot more that can be done with a DSTV decoder than just surfing the channels you get...

Lyngsat is where you can actually see what is broadcast on a satellite -> http://www.lyngsat.com/intel10.html

To access the Public Bouquet, press the TV button on the remote and scroll down to Public Bouquet.
Most of the time there are various religious channels broadcasting on the bouquet.

To setup the free to air channels - follow this guide: http://www.sats-r-us.co.za/freetoair.html

Have just checked now and Lyngsat still shows that the MyTV channels are still FTA.

I did but it finds the pas7/10 networks(+/-8) and when I switch to it theres nothing but an error?

I had this problem as well - just reset your decoder to factory default - also as far as I know, the FTA channels do not work on HD PVR decoders.

From time to time MyTV switches off the Conax encryption that it uses - usually about 3/4 days in a row - this usually means they doing tests on the system and the safest way for them to play around is by opening the system to Free to Air so their customers don't bitch.

If you want MyTV just go buy a subbed card from Ellies.

A 'subbed card' ?? What does this cost as I don't have an Ellies even close to me. :(

"My TV is now available in countries across sub-Sahara Africa (excluding the Republic of South Africa)." - MyTV website: http://www.mytvafrica.tv/Subscribe.aspx

This is so typical of MC and their s#!t

@avr-rulez - please give more detail on the subbed card issue

It has nothing to do with MC... ICASA decides who gets licenses, as they are the regulator.
