MyWireless 128: Fixed at last? NOPE!!!

UPDATE: Well, it's Monday morning folks! And that means it's time for this stupid piece of TURD to slow down. Currently at 0.2KB/s down and 0.1KB/s up. WELL DONE SENTECH!

It's 1:00 on Friday 24 September 2004. I think that after having correct speeds for a 128K package (around 14KB/s) for a few days now, I can maybe be a bit cautiously optimistic that this is perhaps how it's going to stay?

I connect to the Sentech honeydew tower - how is everyone else on the rest of the towers doing on 128k packages? Fixed or not?

I really hope that this nightmare is finally ending... now just to fight for my two months free compensation and I will be one happy customer again.

Forgive but don't forget.

Suck me, 512k is still @ 128k speeds, orc told me that 256/512k is going to be sorted this weekend, but I doubt that now re: my other topic

Hell, my gran on a scooter with a memory stick is faster than Sentech's MyWireless!

This is day 6 for me where 128k has been 100% (12.x for local and international)

Before midnight it was its usual pathetic self, after midnight it has improved dramatically and same speed tests (5 different sites) run this morning are promising - But, consistancy? Will report back same time next month.

Lets hope it stays that way when they try to ramp up user numbers again.

Its pretty funny to think how they used to pimp the line "(package/30 = x kbps) is all you should be getting" and now they start giving 100% of the package [)]

Mind you with all the bad press they've had I dont think they're going to ramp up that quickly.

Yeah I know 512/256 is still ****. It seems that they are implementing this package by package...

The service is still far from fixed for P2P users. If I limit my upload to 1KB/s (with netlimiter), then I can get close to 12kB/s download, If I don't do this or even increase the limit to 2kB/s, my Down & Uploads drop to 2-3kB/s.
Is this an intentional "Feature"???

I agree with bck. The service is not fixed. P2P is fscked, now that they have correctly contended the 128 package, it seems that they are shaping....aggressively. Downloads seem ok for int & local, but I can't use Skype internationally, and gnutella is limited to MAX 1KB/s download (I can get 13KB/s upload....yay!...I'm the poster child for P2P)

Hmmm... well, I use xFactor (www.xfactor.cc) for the mac - it connects to the most popular p2p networks, and so far my speeds have been great. Which tower are you guys on?

(hehe... save the MACS MACS MACS LOL LOL LOL comments please [8)])

Active Shaping + Throttling = Ripoff, not Contention.

"Bandwidth Management" is Sentech-speak for "poor service".

"shaping" + AUP = "We'll tell you how to use the service you pay for. Oh, and we lied about the speeds."

It took me 20 minutes to watch the first 5 minutes of the BBC news . And it's only a 35k stream. I can watch this on a 48k modem through Tiscali at a faster speed!

Now I'm downloading Open Office from the UK (just to prove a point) tucows.easynet.net in London and after 1 MB of download it's going to take another 8 hrs 54 mins, for a package that at 56k should download in 2 hrs 35 minutes. (It eventually took 4 hrs and 10 minutes, starting at 11pm on Friday night. Nice one 128k, Sentech!)

Trying the same thing from tucows.is.co.za is obviously going to be faster, but even then its slower than dual ISDN, which *should* be the same speed at the 128k package.

Maybe we could organise a "download day" near the end of the month when all the ADSL guys are tearing their hair out. We could each choose a different international location of OpenOffice and all start downloading at the same time. Then we phone the orcs at Tech support and ask what happened to the bandwidth?[:D]

If enough people do it we may get somewhere. Sigh. Maybe not.[:(]

Just wondering, has everybody tried all available settings RWIN, MTU etc. such as in Dr TCP from dslreports or Broadband tweaks from speedcorp.net to see if perfomance changes? my settins are different to when I was on dial up and when the "service" has enough bandwidth it works fairly well for my demands.

Why download just OpenOffice? Debian Sarge should have reached stable by then (last I heard it would be sometime in September). Either ways, the images - all 14 of them - are available at

http://ftp.acc.umu.se/pub/cd-images/debian-weekly/

To make matters worse (for sentech) every body can choose a different architecture.... :)

consistency is the key here and I aint getting that...

as far as I am concerned it is still far from fixed... better... but it aint fixed

myWireless 128, 64, 48, 16 - depends on its mood.

It seems to be, my upload speeds (DC++) are fantastic, but download is next to nothing.

Orc sent me a list of "Blocked" ports, claiming it might effect P2P, I don't think it does, but perhaps an expert might want to evaluate it?

Looks like games again on the 128k package - after 8 days of getting what I've been paying for I re-opened my bandwidth ticket.

It seems like 10.x kB/s has been set as a max on local and international.

Unfortunately for Sentech, I have 3 demonstrationsto to do for clients this morning and if the performance remains as it is right now, I will show my dialup line vs the Sentech connection and leave the choice to the clients!

Bad word of mouth multiplies

Demo one has been done and customer is going dialup until Sentech performance returns to what it was last week or another provider shows.

I wonder how many people this customer will tell re the Sentech performance vs a dialup line.

Demo 2 soon - Sentech I hope you undo change made and put the system setup back to was it was last week before then.
