As some people on the forum know, I've been putting together a little survey on the WyWi service,
THE AIMS:
to keep a live and current database of MyWi users, and all the info they can give on the service. And display the results for the world to see.
I FEEL SORRY FOR THE NEXT SOD THAT SAYS 2%

Currently the reports are rather limited, but as the database grows, and I figure out what to do with the data, I will put up some more reports.

The survey will record users IP, Package, Tower/s, Node/s, Signal, BER, speed rating, Latency, and Date.
As well as a little bit on the Call centre, and User Satisfaction

Along with more reports, the database will also be downloadable shortly, so users can see the full stats themselves and possible generate some more valuable information for us.

One last thing, please be honest, Initially I was restricting multiple votes, but I have now allowed it so that users can give stats on different towers they use / have used.
The information gathered on this survey will only be useful if it is honest.

So, go check http://dorris.hopto.org for the survey.

Bear in mind, this is hosted on a mywireless service with reception fluctuating between 0 and 12, so I lose connectivity a few times in the day, so if you can't connect, try it half an hour later, sorry for the inconvenience.

Dorris you are opening your database up for abuse if you don't stop multiple votes.

You also MUST force all voters to give their sentech mywireless email address (xxx@sentechsa.com I think it is), send them an email with a confirm link, and only allow those people that reply to be used in your reports.

Otherwise Sentech, and pretty much anyone else will be able to refute the stats. You've done all this work so far, rather go the whole way to ensure that your stats are legit. If you can produce a list of MyWireless usernames on demand, then Sentech has no chance.

I'm quite happy to supply my sentech email for verification. I do think that multiple stats is needed for different times of the day, different towers, different nodes on the same tower, etc.
I agree the "voting" part might have to be limited to 1 per email, but not the stats part

I would help further if you explain to the non-initiated how to ping and what is BER and how to test it.

As to the ping, I did 10 in a row top Sentech and got averages ranging between 1372ms and 161ms.

I have an inferiority complex. But it's only a little one.

regardtV : Nope, try me at dorris@beepbeep.co.za
buffbill : I'll get into a little explanation, I think I did state that you can use Mysignal, I must just extend that to BER and sig strength too

Lewstherin / Luke : In regards to multiple votes, I thought about mail, but came to the conclusion that it would scare too many people away (I don't like to give out my address too often, or reg links), and we would lose their stats.
Although the database is left wide open, I am still tracking cookies and IP's, If I see anything suspiscious in the DB, it won't last vey long, unfortunately, this leaves the reliability of it, solely in one persons hands,

Any other suggestions?
If you would be happy with mail verification, post here, and I might do something about it tonight

PS, I wrote a quick consumer satisfaction reports page this morning, just need to neaten it up slightly, before adding the link, the results so far 70.58% UNHAPPY

Quick comments :
I assume Signal Strength is NOT S-N-L, since only 1 is present on the poll
Regarding the email addy, I've got no prob to add it to my detail. Will be using the sentech 1 anyway, so no "invasion of privacy" there :)

Sorry guys, as I said in my forst post,
Bear in mind, this is hosted on a mywireless service with reception fluctuating between 0 and 12, so I lose connectivity a few times in the day, so if you can't connect, try it half an hour later, sorry for the inconvenience.

Well as it turns out, I've had no signal since 5pm, when I can get back home, I'll route it to some dedicated webspace.

Quick update :
My signalsback after a severe signal draught lasting 3 days, but my preciousssssss has returned.
In regards to the survey, I am just waiting for a response from one of those free asp servers that offer databases of some sort, so far they have activated my account, but need to get the DB up. I'll keep everyone posted, and let you know when its back up.

Donavan : YES
Comrade : currently 21 voters = 70.58%, assuming 2000 subscribers, in a day, the count went up to 0.75% definitely unsatisfied , Im sure once I'm back up, these figures will increase dramatically
