N1 North blocked off by Taxi drivers. Violence on the freeway due to confrontation...

Apparently they are blocking roads and being unruly. These taxi drivers should go die in a fire. :mad:

They are also apparently completely blocking the N1 north between allendale and new road, thats where i need to be driving to now :/

I want to take a machine gun, mount it on my Uno and shoot the bastards, now I have to laze around here cause I need to go to my supplier and have to use that part of the highway.

Just came through between allandale and new. Either they set up *really* quickly, or I'm going blind...

Heard about the taxi problems from my maid this morning. Sheesh. Bloody people need to join the civilised world at some stage.

Well, the webcam feed switched away from the New Road bridge, so cant really tell if its moving yet.

Can you imagine if this happens when we host the 2010 world soccer event? :D

The government are in a nice tight spot at the moment. They need to get the taxi industry up to specs for transporting tourists but the taxi owners want things to stay as they are (low maintenance + zero personal tax).

In 1922, there was a big strike by white miners. A certain General Jan Smuts, who was Prime Minister of South Africa at the time, ordered the army and the airforce in, and fought a running battle with the miners, using aircraft, artillery, the works. The strike was soon suppressed.

Smuts was one of the few men powerful yet wise enough to be able to do this. Would that we had a president like him today...
