Yes. And tell me, do you drive oh Jhb roads? Specifically the N1? Next time you do pay attention to how other people drive, its even easier now with the carpool lane, and tell me that I am wrong.

What they really need to do is widen the N1 to 6 lanes in each direction as well as upgrade all the exit points.

Well, I assume this is what one would do in a more first-world-ey place than Africa. *Add* a lane, then make that a lift club lane.

Or, as another example, build a *new* airport and call it O.R. Tambo.

Back when the proposal was that two people in one car would count, I
proposed getting me a car-boy. Hey, I'm creating a job, the dude can
watch the car and put money in the meter as required, and we can all
save on electric gates ('cos he can get out and open the gate).

Sure ministers are exempt, they seem to be exempt from most of the country's laws.

Kind of 2/3rds to Jhb. The interchange splits the N1 north & south,N3 and M1

Edit: that's 2/3rds between Pretoria and Jhb

Wow! I've been watching the Buccleuch webcam for the last half hour, 10 minutes ago the traffic seemed very light, almost like a weekend, and 10 minutes later it is packed! When is the real peak?

In my experience. Every year the peak moves about 10 minutes earlier.

• Monday: Peak traffic is later. People want an extended weekend. Starts at around 6h30-7h00.
• Tuesday: Normal traffic. Peak starts at around 7h00.
• Wednesday: Peak is delayed. Less traffic due to professional doctors and others taking midweek break. Start a little bit after 7h00
• Thursday: Normal traffic as per Tuesdays.
• Friday: Peak is early. Starts at around 6h00. People go to work early to start weekend early...

Property prices in jhb are insanely high, but it's where the employment oppotunities are. People are forced to travel through no fault of their own.

today was a second experience at HOV lane rubbish.

I only have one issue. One th way to work i am sitting in the middle lane (both middle lane and left lane are crawling), the fast lane is actually moving and about 90% of the cars have the required specs. (ie taxis with wheels n **** falling off)

Anyway now this lane is moving yet our lanes are crawling and all of a sudden a taxi wants to get to an offramp. Now all the middle cars are moving slowly so the taxi has to wait for someone to let him in. While he is waiting the fast lane suddenly slows down.

Our roads/offramps and driver mentality can not support this concept.

Nice try govermunt, but lets face it, it aint gonna work. But here's an idea, lets try and improve the public transport system then less people will have to depend on their cars.

On Highveld this morning, Whack head tried to go through the HOVL with two blow up dolls. 5km and a couple of metro cop redirections later, he got fined R500. Looks like they are getting serious about it now.

Give the government some credit for trying stuff out. They do nothing we complain. They do something to make a change, we complain. This might not be the correct solution but at least they are trying.

If it's working then it means there must have been a number of people organising lift clubs? Or could there be another reason?

Doesn't matter why, but it *is* working. The ride in to work was great, and traffic is moving all the way, except for a short patch near New road. I come in from Centurion to Midrand, and there's a lot of Metro out there enforcing the rules. A *lot*.

Maybe it's that the transport department is serious about their plan, maybe people are just adjusting their schedules for the expected traffic and it's now becoming more evenly spread. I just know that I rarely see the N1 this good in the morning, especially when there's Metro on it.
