Good news for massive N1 sinkhole repair

The R280-million rehabilitation of a huge sinkhole that formed next to the N1 in Centurion nearly three years ago has been completed, and all vehicle lanes have been reopened for traffic.

MyBroadband contacted the South African National Roads Agency (Sanral) after several readers who regularly use the highway as part of their commute noticed that the roadworks appeared to be complete.

The R280-million rehabilitation

"The cost of rehabilitating these holes was estimated to be around R144 million, with completion set for August 2024."

Someone is smiling all the way to the bank. Almost double the original estimation.

Pleasure

I was just coming to MyBB to report this. Repairs completed and all 4 lanes open again (after last weeks bad traffic due to only 2 lanes being open instead of 3).

Some cadre is smiling all the way to the bank obviously. A corrupt government is not known for it's honesty.

Well yes it took unreasonably long and cost way too much

However, some props to Sanral & private engineering for getting this done not years after it collapsed and consumed sections of the road and surrounding industry but before it could do so and rehabilitated the area for now and the foreseeable future, instead of rerouting the highway or as the public would have them do, just fill it with sand, which would have been catastrophic.
