Hi guys,

I just got my n73 yesterday on vodacom weekender :D
But it seems really buggy and stuff for eg the camera has this blue haze on it etc.
i use version 3.0638.0.0.1
The latest out is v4........ something and most of the bugs are fixed.

How would i go about updating it? i have no nokia place near me. Can i go about updating it myself, but is it safe and would my warranty still be avaliable?

Thanks.

I think it's bs that they give people a phone with outdated firmware... Many users aren't in the know about these stuff and they get screwed out of a good phone.

I have a Motorola SLVR L7 (Dont ask why) Only good thing about Motorola's are the fact that they are very moddable. It doesnt come with EDGE? Because it's disabled in the software... Modded it few months back now have edge, faster interface, itunes (disabled in sa phones) and a bunch of stuff.

I think you can do it yourself and it wont void the warranty, because its a legal update to your phone supported by Nokia.

Nokia has a software updater which you can download here. Install it and follow the instructions. It will let you know if there is an update available and ask if you wanna update, just say yes and your update will start. A few important things to remember:
1. Plug your in your charger while the phone is updating.
2. The updates are 60-70mb so it may take a while depending on your connection
3. Don't disconnect the usb cable while the update is taking place
4. Wait until the entire update is finished before you remove the usb cable. The update will download and flash to your phone. Your phone will switch off and on again by itself. Only after the phone has started up again and it looks like it usually looks then you disconnect the usb cable.
5. Lastly remember to backup any data saved on the phone itself because the update will delete any data on the phone.

To answer your original question, if you update with Nokia's updater you don't void your warranty.

Just reassure you, I've done quite a few Nokia's using the Nokia Update service and its fine.

Tips:

1. Ensure a full battery before you start!
2. Ensure Eskom does not have you on their blackout list!
3. Ensure the handset is in a secure location where it can't become disconnected mid-update!
4. Read what is actually shown on screen - Not what you expect it to say!!
5. Do NOT be tempted to disconnect the phone even it looks like nothings going on!

You'll effectively factory default the phone, so back up your phonebook and pictures via PC Suite if you want to put things back as they were!

guys, its says its fully up to date, when its not. v3.0638.0.0.1 is not the latest, on nokias site it says 4......something.

What now, those bugs in the n73 are seriously annoying.

Guys, is debranding the fone okay? Its vodafone branded and the only way to fix the problems is to change the product code and then update it to the generic software. Would this screw anything up? like the warranty?
