I'm trying to get a Nokia N95 to connect to the web, it's got a CellC sim card.

All the networks in South Africa's network settings has been loaded on it, so I just chose the "Smartdata" settings.

Problem is, when I try to connect the phone beeps and says "packet data: packet data not available, check network services".

I've phoned Cell C yesterday about 4 times, they sent me through new settings, but it didn't work. The last guy I spoke to said the system which activates the settings is down, so it won't work and I should try again today, well it's not working today either.

If I use *147# to get the settings, I get an sms back which says the settings couldn't be processed or something.

Is there anything I can check on the phone itself? Any ideas for me?

This is strange. I found out that even after asking 3 times if the simcard was setup for GPRS they said yes, but in fact it was no.

Strange thing is when I insert my Virgin Simcard it doesn't give that error, but it connects and I get an error, web time out.

Is the phone faulty?

Well, after being frustrated out of my skull today and yesterday and swearing worse than Robert Deniro in a gangster movie, I finally got it working.

Problem was the sim card, like I mentioned above, I tried my Virgin Sim in it and after playing around for a few hours with my Virgin sim (it connected the 2nd time) I tried the Cell C sim again (I phoned them this afternoon, yesterday I phoned 4 times and the sim was finally setup for GPRS) and it worked fine.

Great thing is I've got Edge reception where I live, which makes life a lot easier, too bad the N95 isn't mine, lol.

So even you have the same problem and have been googling for answers, take my word for it, either you haven't chosen the correct access point for your network or your sim card isn't correctly setup for internet services.

N95 is an easy to use, quite cool phone I might add and the GPS is amazing ;) :D :p

It was preloaded on the phone and the phone had the latest firmware as well. The box was sealed as well.

Just phone MTN from your prepaid sim and ask them to send you the settings. (Or, if your simcard supports it, use the Setup Wizard in the Menu to download the connection settings, which is easier).
