I took the leap and upgraded to the v20 firmware (nifty and all). Lots was spoken about the new menu structure too (which is just the current one re-arranged into a few new levels - no eye-candy)

The question I have ... In allot of the screen shots for the new firmware I see people running some app that lists the phone's resources down the side of the screen (i.e. memory, card space etc) in little boxes (if I can find a link to the picture I'll edit this post).

Anyone have any idea of the app I am talking about? It just looked so cool (probably pointless haha).

Ta

ps. People intending to go the v20 route, just be careful there seems to be an issue around re-loading the map data. The MapLoader software is NOT happy with the phone (this is posted all over the Nokia forums at the moment - so look there before you take the leap)

Ta piesang,

I somehow thought you might have the answer. Will give it a google quick and see (I initially thought those screen captures were of the new interface lol )

Now to go back and play with my light sabre (yes also something you were responsible getting me hooked on haha) - the n95 type of light sabre of course.

Hi digilus,

I plan to upgrade my collegues phone tonite before he flies off to Australia for holiday.

Did you use the Nokia Updater to do the update? I found the link on the europe site so wasnt sure if you can jst use the europe one on your SA phone. Can I?

Thanks in advance

If he has got "local" N95 then you will have to change the Product Code before Nokia Software Updater will pick up the new version.

Personally, I'd rather wait till your collegue is back before doing an upgrade, just cause things CAN go wrong and then he has no phone to use while over there. Also be mindful of the Map Loader issues that some nokia people are experiencing. So if you want to risk him being in Australia without pre-loaded australian maps .... :) I'll leave that up to you.

Piesang is right, I had to change my phone's product code to the EURO1 equivalent.

Thanks Guys,

Is there no updated SA version for the N95? He is not even on the v12 one and cant even use his GPS which is the reason we are updating.

Even if we can upgrade to v12, that would be great.

Does changing it to the euro code affect any of the phones features? And how do you change the code?

Im aware that it could mess up the phone but I have done it before (updating a nokia, not messing up one :) ) so willing to take the risk.

Thanks and much appreciated.

The v12 is available for SA phones (mine was v12) - just use the Nokia Update software and it should be fine.

As for changing the phone to euro code, best consult the great oracle called google for that - won't want to try remember the steps off-hand now.

A side effect of the euro stuff I did have was some of my map locations / points of interest were in german *weird!* haha But now I don't even have any maps (thanks nokia lol) - so will see how they turn out when it is fixed.

I replied to this thread last week already but I dont see the reply here. Must have had a dis-connection or something.

Anyways, I upgraded to the safer v12 since that is what the updater showed me. I will google for changing the code when I upgrade v20 on MY phone. GPS works nicely on his phone now and it finally usable.

Thanks Digilus and others in this post.
