N95 poor battery life

My friend has a N95 and he wants to throw the phone out of the window. The reason? With 'medium' use, he only gets half a day battery life.

I have done the following for him:

1. Turned off 3G.
2. Adjusted the screen brightness to 'low'.
3. Screen saver de-activated.
4. Bluetooth off, Wi-fi off.

What else can we do to save battery power?

*He uses a belt-clip with a magnetic strip - can that cause the battery to drain faster?

We have turned it off.

Oh dear, he wants to swop his N95 for my P990i! Piesang will get a heart-attack! I told him - NO, THANKS!!

I thinks its also his location if he's far from a tower than it will use more energy to keep connected to the tower... lol

Go for the P990!!:D

I had my mates one for 4 days... a bit of testing. It works nicely for one day and the next day it runs down very quickly.

So I will have to also decide if its worth getting a phone that I must charge every night.

I'm not Piesang but I am getting around 2 days worth of battery life out of my N95. That is with medium use (occasional phone call, few pictures taken, few sms's sent, emails checking every 2 hours, bit of web browsing).

Turning off the 3G does make a difference, also (unless he is in dire need of being contacted) switch to Offline mode when in dreamland. I use the alarm to wake me up, so I sometimes switch the phone off completely (the alarm goes off and asks you nicely if you want to turn the phone on now too  )

The battery life also did improve after the first few charges. I am in week 2 or 3 now. But ... it can't hurt to get a USB charger or a car Charger for the new toy .. erm phone.

One thing that does drain the battery is if it is left plugged into the PC's via USB !! I find it the best way to drain the last bits of the battery if you want to suck it dry before a fresh charge.

My friend gets quite a few phone calls during the day and says that when he is driving to various building sites, he must constantly put his N95 on the car charger, otherwise it runs out of juice. Then when he gets home, back on the mains charger. Can't be fun.

Well, the most I got was 3 days. The average is about 2 days and with heavy usage I get 1 day. ;):D

The N95 sounds more and more like a laptop with a desktop CPU in it.

Well, such a powerful device with all these functionality, what did you expect, 10days?

I suppose it is back to the old advice that was given somewhere in this forum.... If you want GPS get a car based GPS, if you want an MP3 player get a many gig iPOD, if you want a Camera get one - but if you want it all in one - get a N95 and a charger to go with it ;) lol

I imagine new firmware might help the battery out a bit (they usually tweak things like that) - or we might find a newer battery (higher capacity) might come out that'll help - who knows.

Well, you can go to your BMW dealer and tell them you want to buy a X5 but you want the same milage as your wife Citi Golf.

Good comparison piesang! I get 2 full days when I use it for calls, sms and playing with gps, its now already going on day 3 with 2 bars left... No complains on this side:)

So, must I tell my friend that there is nothing you can do - the N95 is unfortunately 'blessed' with a crap battery?

*My P990i is far more advanced than the N95 - it has a touch screen + business card scanner/reader, after all - but I manage two to four days out of it with 'light' use, so the poor excuse that the N95 is 'so advanced' and sucks battery power because of it, holds absolutely no water. Sorry, but someone had to say it.

My mate is VERY p1ssed-off with his N95.
