Former Springbok and Bulls flyhalf, Naas Botha, says his old team need to start looking at a change in coaching personnel.

The Bulls’ 21-20 loss to the Rebels in Melbourne at the weekend saw the end of their playoff hopes in this year’s Super Rugby competition.

It also ended a miserable tour for the men from Pretoria, who lost all four their games in Australasia.

It is the second year in a row that the Bulls have returned from their overseas Super Rugby tour without a victory.

Botha feels it’s time for Frans Ludeke to be relieved of his duties as head coach.

With the quality of players at their disposal, the Bulls should be one of the leading teams in the competition, Botha told Netwerk24.

“We have so many Springboks and so much talent. I’m really disappointed,” said Botha.

Botha reckons the mistake lies with the Bulls’ rugby philosophy and a change in coaching staff needs to be considered.

“There should definitely be a change. Things cannot continue like this, because what we’re seeing at present is not good enough.”

Ludeke, who led to the Bulls to Super Rugby titles in 2009 and 2010, reportedly has a contract with the Bulls until October 2016.

However, the union’s CEO Barend van Graan, has confirmed that the Blue Bulls Company will hold a meeting on Friday to discuss the future of Ludeke.

Backline coach Pieter Rossouw earlier opted not to extend his contract with the union.

Read the news 24 article, fans and bull haters seem to be devided on this remark. But I would love to see Naas as Bulls coach, I think he can bring something to the game. And maybe he can see that the best game plan is only as good as the teams attitude...

He will NEVER leave SS.

It will be the worse decision of his life.

Naas doesn't have a very good track record as coach. Failed at the Valke. And Waterkloof has gone from a Top 3 school side to a very average side. Now I know, neither of these teams can be compared with the Bulls, especially on budget, skills, structures. But a good coach will still show signs of brilliance with none of those things on top level. Just look at Dawie Theron (Griquas) and Jimmy Stonehouse (Pumas). Both went on to much bigger and better jobs because of what they achieved with these minnow sides.

Don't think Naas is a very good manager/motivator of players.

I personally believe he can be quite destructive in his criticism some times. And coaching a side needs more constructive than destructive criticism.

This is why Supersport works for him. He can criticise and analyse all day long without any results needing to come out of that.

Seeing something is wrong and being able to fix/improve on it are completely different things.

What Naas says Bulls do, Coach resigned last night after that thumping by the Cheetahs...

Bulls are playing the waiting game.

Ludeke might have stepped down as coach but he is not gone by any means.

If Heyneke Meyer gets a contract extension with the Boks then Ludeke will become Director of Rugby.

If not, then Meyer will come back to the Bulls to fill that role.

Either way, Matfield and Fourie du Preez will coach Bulls next year.
