Naledi Pandor blames 'legacy of apartheid' for attacks on African foreigners

International relations minister Naledi Pandor met ambassadors and high commissioners from Africa on Monday to ease tensions after a diplomatic fallout triggered by attacks on foreign nationals that have rocked the country.

Pandor told the diplomats, among other explanations, that the legacy of apartheid which caused economic inequalities in the country was to blame for locals losing their cool with their African brothers and sisters in a scramble for crumbs.

This phenomenon was among a "toxic mix of socio-economic challenges" and should not be overlooked if long-term solutions were to be found to the current crisis, she said.

It was the same situation of poverty, lack of skills and economic inequalities in other African countries that continued to push migrants to the south in a quest for economic opportunities, said the minister.

The older the get the more I hate politicians. They are collectively incapable of actually owning up to any of their own mistakes and that is why they never seem to actually do anything constructive to get out of the messes they create.

The unfortunate thing is we are forced by law to continually enable them and get locked up should we revolt against enabling them!
Tax revolt is the only solution to ensure capable and accountable ministers are created.

Who is responsible for the situation where people are having to fight over crumbs?

Correct, your party of whores, liars and thieves.

The ANC has destroyed every institution (finally including SARS as well) in this country since 1994. IT took them a while but they did it. My hopes were for the opposite, I had even hoped that I might one day vote for the ANC, but those hopes have been thoroughly dashed by inept corrupt politicians.

Hey Naledi, do you perhaps think maybe the lack of good education (and the educated) and good jobs for the majority could have something to do with the violence in this country towards foreigners and otherwise. They see their jobs being stolen (rightfully or not) by foreigners. Something to chew on you dimwit.
