Namibia's tomato exports to South Africa reached a record high in July, a recently released report by the Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA) revealed.

Initially, the statistics body erred in reporting that Namibia had imported tomatoes worth more than R24 million from South Africa.

Upon correction of its report, it showed that Namibia had exported that much to South Africa.

The report stated that on average per month Namibia exported tomatoes worth R9.4 million to South Africa, but the figure shot up to more than R24 million in July.

"When compared to the corresponding month of last year (July 2021), export value of tomatoes for the month of July 2022 increased by a notable 251.1%," the body said.

According to Trading Economics, an economics data tracker, South Africa imports fresh and chilled tomatoes from Namibia.

In 2020, that trade accounted for R44 million, an average of R3.66 million per month.

Last week, Namibia and Botswana held their inaugural Bi-National Commission that centred on trade, regional integration, and cooperation.

Not only tomatoes, but virtually everything. Farming is dead in SA. They killed a whole industry.
Dead as a door nail I tell you. Dead!
South Africa’s agricultural exports hit a record high of $12.4-billion in 2021. In the last quarter of the year alone, agriculture, food and beverage exports increased by 18% year-on-year to $2.8-billion.

It's funny.

South Africa exports its good because its more profitable?

South Africa then imports the same goods again to feed us peasants?

Very much so...

Our farmers can sell their produce overseas at a much higher value than they can sell them here.

It will always be like that.

Government needs to regulate this. 50% of everything a farm produce must go to the local market first.

Although Woolies can probably afford to buy local and sell local at foreign prices.

Back in our days, we used to farm 3 tons of tomato in just 1 sq.meter. land. Those were the days when 1 dollar was 1 rand.

Although, I must appreciate farmers of SA. Despite having all the land taken by ANC, they have managed this feat. Are they using Aero-ponic method?

This farming miracle suspiciously looks like people paying most of the SA tax despite having no jobs due to BEE.

If you drive past Citrusdal, there are hundreds of hectares of citrus trees. These have been producing oranges and other citrus for many years

I would definitely not call it "shyte".

This is from an article published in Feb 2022... This is pre Euro war and the pre the change in EU exporting regulations which has damaged the SA citrus industry.
