For a snort time they were there with packaging saying Israeli tomato’s and “product of south africa” I’m guessing someone tried farming them here.
But since it was a political and religious meddling simply having the term “Israeli” seemed to be a problem too. And then they just vanished from shelves to be replaced by the plain, sorry, tasteless “salad tomatoes”

Really? I can see it online though. Maybe they moved it out of stores due to vandalism ?

Interesting. Believe my I’ve checked multiple Woolies over the years every time I go. Maybe I should try online

I don't think taste will be tolerated in SA. I recall it being even worse than grapefruit. They probably sell it as exotic in French market.

Should all be banned like spanspek, avocados, popo's and all that other rubbish

Yeah I know, I just find it amusing that we grow that sort of thing here and we've never really seen them (even the B grade variants).

Not only tomatoes, but virtually everything. Farming is dead in SA. They killed a whole industry.

More a case of much of what is grown here gets exported to countries that are willing to pay premium for premium products.
Also the reason why SA is a dumping ground.

Not a fan of sapnspek & popo's either but give avo's from checkers a try. I like avos with beans burrito. With salt & pepper, good fatty food for vegetarians.

Woolies has the worse possible avo's in terms of taste.

All avo's are tasteless. I always scrape that guacamole schit off if I forget to tell them not to put it on
