Hi anybody else having line sync problems in the 021 462 XXXX (Barreck Street Exchange) area?
My 1024kbps line on this exchange went down on Wednesday evening (it could not sync/flashing link light) but was working again Thur morning.
Same problem this morning
Telkom tell me that they are currently having many similiar problems throughout this area and over all line types and not just with 1024, can anyone else confirm this?
If so please reply with your problem and your line type as i am trying to rule out if it is just a 4Mbps trial issue or not.

Thanks

BTW Dialup sucks

<<< NATIONAL ADSL GRID ISSUES >>> ADSL Transfer rates ground to a halt!

My transfer speed has suddenly ground to a halt. Trace route to the ftp speed test file seems fine:
1 1 ms 1 ms 1 ms 10.0.0.2
2 41 ms 26 ms 26 ms dsl-146-64-01.telkomadsl.co.za [165.146.64.1]
3 38 ms 88 ms 32 ms 196.43.23.65
4 43 ms 26 ms 26 ms 196.43.23.65
5 41 ms 26 ms 26 ms rrba-ip-essr-2-ge-4-1.telkom-ipnet.co.za [196.43.23.106]
6 37 ms 31 ms 30 ms rrba-ip-dns-2.saix.net [196.43.1.13]

But I get transfer speeds of a thrilling 0.2 KB/s for the FTP!

I've logged a call with Telkom but they are clueless. It was working fine this morning:mad:

Mine's nearly 400kb/s. Have you tried resetting everything?

I'm in Edenvale. Still down this morning. I have reset the modem a couple of times and some guy at Telkom rebuilt the port or something. I've been hard capped before but then the ADSL would not set up a PPP connection. Here it is just really slow as though I have a bandwidth throttle in place. I'm not sure if it is like previously when people used to get internationally softcapped but I can connect to international and local sites but the speed is just slow. Ping times seem fine. The last time I was hard capped I could assess again on the 1st of the next month.

I'm in Pretoria, Brummeria, and our speed here is also non existent...

I was told it was since this morning, that Guild Wars worked fine last evening still...
This seems to be something bigger than usual....

I'm on IS, uncapped 4Mb line...

<<< NATIONAL ADSL GRID ISSUES >>> ADSL Down in PMB / KZN ??

Can anyone else confirm a problem with ADSL being down(error 468) in PMB or KZN. I have spent most of today trying to sort out this issue and have had no help. Someone at 10215 suggested that ther is a general problem in KZN. I have not seen any SAIX notices though. There was one about a cable break isbut is said that is was repaired.

Reference ID : STT000000005157
Failure Type : Network Failure
Problem Description : Link down between Durban and Bellville Impact : All clients might experience intermittent browsing problems Time Down : 2 Oct, 2006 at 05:14:00 (SAT) Time Up : 2 Oct, 2006 at 09:37:00 (SAT)
Sites : Durban
Services Affected : All clients
Resolution Description : Cable break repaired
Cause of Failure : Cable Break

In any event my down time has happened after this.

Our ADSL was down for most of the afternoon but came up around 4pm. Our ISP said that Telkom had reported a major cable problem that was being fixed in stages.

DNS Servers

Hi there

I see that my modem has logged DNS server unavailable as an error in its log file. What are the telkom dns servers ips? Where do i input them( I assume in the tcp /ip properities in the connection-- router being used in bridge mode) Why would the obtains dns server automatically setting not work?

DNS Pings

I found the Ips. I can ping them.

Pinging 196.25.255.34 with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 196.25.255.34: bytes=32 time=914ms TTL=241
Reply from 196.25.255.34: bytes=32 time=612ms TTL=241
Reply from 196.25.255.34: bytes=32 time=472ms TTL=241
Reply from 196.25.255.34: bytes=32 time=450ms TTL=241

Ping statistics for 196.25.255.34:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 450ms, Maximum = 914ms, Average = 612ms

Pinging 196.25.255.3 with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 196.25.255.3: bytes=32 time=977ms TTL=241
Reply from 196.25.255.3: bytes=32 time=600ms TTL=241
Reply from 196.25.255.3: bytes=32 time=441ms TTL=241
Reply from 196.25.255.3: bytes=32 time=539ms TTL=241

Ping statistics for 196.25.255.3:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 441ms, Maximum = 977ms, Average = 639ms

So my machine can see the DNS servers.

I have had someone else test my accounts -- they work from a different location. Still i cannot establish a connection? error 678 - remote computer does respond. The modem synchs just fine.

Please help!!

Just realised my machine can see these dns servers via my 3g card. When i disconnected it I got the following.

Pinging 196.25.255.34 with 32 bytes of data:

Destination host unreachable.
Destination host unreachable.
Destination host unreachable.
Destination host unreachable.

Ping statistics for 196.25.255.34:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss),

So my modem synchs fine but I cant connect to telkom for some reason.

Any one have any idea?

<<< NATIONAL ADSL GRID ISSUES >>> ADSL down/slow all over the place

I'm seeing about 53% packet loss to local and international sites outside of the ADSL network (i.e. anything off the ADSL network - even Telkom stuff). I can ping on-net stuff (i.e. other ADSL IPs) without any problems.

The SAIX noticeboard reports:
------------------------------
Call Reference ID: STT000000005166
Failure Type: Network Failure
Problem Description: Line down from Rosebank LIR to Bellville LIR
Time Down: 2 Oct 2006, 18:34:00
Impact: Clients will experience slow responses to International Sites
Site: Rosebank
Services Affected: International Traffic
2 Oct 2006, 20:03:46 coghlac
Technicians are busy attending.
------------------------------

and also:

------------------------------
Call Reference ID: STT000000005165
Failure Type: Network Failure
Problem Description: Line down from Rosebank Core to Bellville Core
Time Down: 2 Oct 2006, 18:40:00
Impact: All customers might experience intermittent browsing problems
Site: Rosebank
Sites/Services Affected: All Customers
Updates:

Cause of Failure: Busy Investigating
------------------------------

So lots of stuff is broken at the same time.

We have many clients that use ADSL to access some of our live services and they're all complaining. Clients with point-to-point Diginets are unaffected.
