The National Assembly on Wednesday evening adopted the Expropriation Bill.

The bill replaces an apartheid-era law and would allow for nil compensation to be paid for property when expropriated under certain circumstances. Owners would have recourse to the courts if it does not agree with the price offered.

The DA, EFF, IFP, FF Plus and ACDP objected to the passing of the bill.

The bill will now be sent to the National Council of Provinces.

Its sad that the government is hell bent to go forth so that a few at the top and get a nice farm or house in Sandton and the rest of the country needs to suffer further, just look at our neighbour they also did it "FOR THE PEOPLE". We should first go look why the previous attempt did not work and why. But because the country does not have any money left now we just want to take. There is a right way and a wrong way

Happened in Zimbabwe, Venezuela and they are both now living with the consequences. Cyril actually asked Biden last week to lift sanctions against Zim and even Biden told Cyril to go f**k himself and that the sanctions stays in place. South Africa will likely soon face the same when they start expropriating the first property without compensation.

What are these "certain circumstances"? :rolleyes:

(3) It may be just and equitable for nil compensation to be paid where land is
expropriated in the public interest, having regard to all relevant circumstances, including
but not limited to—
(a) where the land is not being used and the owner’s main purpose is not to
develop the land or use it to generate income, but to benefit from appreciation
of its market value;
(b) where an organ of state holds land that it is not using for its core functions and
is not reasonably likely to require the land for its future activities in that
regard, and the organ of state acquired the land for no consideration;
(c) notwithstanding registration of ownership in terms of the Deeds Registries
Act, 1937 (Act No. 47 of 1937), where an owner has abandoned the land by
failing to exercise control over it;
(d) where the market value of the land is equivalent to, or less than, the present
value of direct state investment or subsidy in the acquisition and beneficial
capital improvement of the land; and
(e) when the nature or condition of the property poses a health, safety or physical
risk to persons or other property.
(4) When a court or arbitrator determines the amount of compensation in terms of
section 23 of the Land Reform (Labour Tenants) Act, 1996 (Act No. 3 of 1996), it may
be just and equitable for nil compensation to be paid, having regard to all relevant
circumstances.

Be sure to maintain your property...... Cut all those trees. Put up swimming pool nets. Don't give them a reason to EWC your property :ROFL::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL:

So you cant buy land to retire anymore, or actually make a profit from it after a year or two.
So basically you have to pay for the land and pay taxes and transfer duties but after that they can just take it back if they like.....

So I can basically lose my small piece of land that I purchased and paying off so when I have to retire one day I have a place to do so.

Would the loophole be to actually get plans drawn up and just present that , that you have the intend to build eventually?

I know a piece of land that has been left for years, owner left the county and was even contacted to sell the land but refused.
That land is just an overgrown bush (in a residential street) that is slowly becoming a dump.

Where do I sign up to EwC that land? :ROFL:
