I fully believe that R14k for you sounds cheap.
You are obviously well off and therefore seem to have no clue.

I do not even earn that much a month
I understand. My intention was more to make people aware that travelling in SA is expensive and you have much better choices.

If you go to countries which you taking rand to euro, pound, or dollar you’re going to suffer.
You can go to turkey, Thailand, Vietnam, Bali, Philippines, you name it.

You are right. Luckily I earn majority of my income in Dollars so I am fine whenever I go abroad. The issue is the rise in traveling costs to get out of the country. Airline prices are crazy this year.

Yeah, I heard Thailand is super cheap.
It’s not super cheap. But thailand allows you to still live and travel cheap if you want to go that route.
Here we don’t have options. It is what it is.
You can spend big bucks or you can have a low key holiday.

It’s only lately that the prices has increased.
Earlier this year I paid R8900, R11150 and R10150 return ticket to Thailand.
I had to come back to renew my passport and I’ll be returning back to Thailand in 2 weeks.
My ticket cost me R14k with Qatar return.

The reason why air tickets are so expensive, specially with Etihad/Emirates/Qatar is because of the football World Cup starting soon. Unfortunately they are the hubs as we call it and more demand means higher prices.

Next year should be cheaper again if you book in advance

It probably helps if you are single. It becomes exponentially more expensive and difficult if you have 5 people travelling together. Qatar was one of the airlines last week that quoted R350k for 5 people.

BTW I see Qatar upped their prices to R19,200 for a single return ticket in December, so you got your ticket at a very good price.

For sure.
There are also other ways to get cheaper tickets.
I buy points when they are in special every month.
I use VPN and and check tickets using different locations.
If you know you want to travel at a certain date, there are other things you can do to make it cheaper

Really?

Force Majeure.

I cannot complete any agreement with the bank due to the influence of a third party me and the bank have no control over. Whether it is a personal loan. Whether it is a bond agreement. Irrelevant.

While my bond agreement clearly includes the land, it is now gone. Taken by government and their laws - a third party. The bank is in breach of the agreement too.

Force Majeure.
I disagree. It's like having a vehicle finance without insurance. Someone writes off your vehicle (outside your control and the banks), you still owe the money.

What will probably change is that you will no longer be able tonuse land itself as collateral. Which is actually the saddest thing as white used land as security for loans (investments etc).

That's why blacks do not have access to finance as the land they live on does not belong to them (communal trust land).

Not quite. With vehicle finance you need to acquire insurance in order to protect yourself and the bank from losses. In fact, insurance is a requirement when you finance a vehicle.

On the other hand, with a bond, that is not a requirement as there are no insurance cover for EWC. In fact, in my bond agreement, the bank refers to expropriation with compensation, but no mention is made about EWC. So, with that in mind, Force Majeure will likely stand in a court of law.

This is really the crux of it. There are literally only a few judges between reasonable appropriation in public interest and Zim style land grabs.

The day I heard on the news Zuma was cleared of all his rape charges, which lead to a pathway to being president, I got a terrible sinking feeling. Today I felt the same. Very concerned about this.

Access to courts to challenge an appropriation does not give much confidence when we look at the Mabuza case, which is literally designed to bankrupt the challenger. This simply proves how the legal system can be abused.

Well, since you corrected me over in another forum, I'll correct you here.
You either haven't bought a car requiring finance, or you're ignorant of the process. The car is not allowed to be driven off the car floor without proof of insurance.
Nice to quote in a statement...not so nice when the facts aren't quite correct are they.

And "tonuse"...?

Typo I believe, I read that is "to use".

That said, I don't ever used land as collateral for a loan. I mean even if I had the option, thats just a bad financial choice to make. Because if you can't pay the loan, they took your land.

So not sure what he is on about, maybe that he will never have the option thinking it's a good or nice thing to have. Yet it's actually a good thing to never have that option.

I know if it, but I was having a dig at the guy after he decided to do the same to me...

PS: You CAN buy a car cash and not have insurance, but not have a car loan with a bank without one. Facts matter...:whistling:
