I was "surprised" to learn that the 2 year deal with free modem has more than a few strings attached. If you want to transfer the ADSL bundle it can only be done if the number doesn't change - refer extract form Telkom site:

"Transfer the service where a number change is involved. The ADSL Bundle Contractual Agreement is not transferable in the case of this transfer. The customer remains liable for the penalty on the agreement attached to his previous address."

Is it such a pain for them if a number change is involved - I realize it would then be a different exchange but it seems a bit harsh?

The penalty is R62.19 excl. VAT per month of remaining term, glad its not me who signed the contact.[]
