Around the track you actually have to drive though. Different to pointing the car down a straight and letting it to do all the thinking.

I did a driving course at that track and if memory serves the back straight is about 1km long.

Hmm, still makes me think of two guys comparing penis sizes. At the end of the day what does it really prove if your car is faster over 1km? Then whoever loses will want to try 2km or 500m, or check top speeds. Maybe I just don't get it...

I like your comments about wanting to ensure it is 100% safe for everyone but as a regular watcher of "seconds from disaster", and the like, there is no such thing. you could both end up killing each other, again, for what?

TBH: yes it is indeed a pissing contest. But really - I doubt the loser will suffer any serious bodily harm or even mild derision. It is something us (obviously) far less evolved males refer to as 'fun' - links:

In answer to your question around what it will prove if one car beats the other over a one kilometer stretch... is it not obvious?

'Kay maybe not: it will prove that the one car can beat the other over a one kilometer stretch.

To each his own I suppose - we have our little contests you have your 30 seconds to disaster, frankly I'd rather be run over repeatedly by both of our cars than watch even 30 seconds of 30 seconds...

How about the open day at Kilarney? http://www.wpmc.co.za/home.php

Oh heck no! Those bends!!
Honestly we're just two punters who insist our cars are better than the others, anything requiring actual skill is far, FAR beyond our competency levels!

Please don't do this on public roads at night. Drive out to the sticks and find a long stretch during the day. Go all the way to the end of it, then race back. Maybe have a 3rd and 4th car "guard" each end of the road so you can look out for other cars and cops?

Absoloodle - see previous posts. not prepared to break the law or put anyone at risk apart from maybe ourselves but flat out on an unused straight - I'd say thats fairly safe.

It gets better: http://www.wpmc.co.za/streetracing.php

A6 V6 Quattro vs Gti over 1 km ... I'd say the A6 walks it.

err.. erm.. 3.0 A6 V6 Quattro.

Airstrip would be best bet. How about Ysterplaat? Get them to agree to an afternoon to let the Air Force okes cheer you on. I doubt you'd get around their insurance issues. You'll need to find a small airstrip like Hermanus or Tweebuffelsmeteenskootdoodgeskiet Fontien. Or maybe Audi/VW get this request every now and then and can help.

err.. erm.. 3.0 A6 V6 Quattro.

As opposed to the 1.8l v6 ? (joke.) ... isn't the 4.2 a v8?

As a GTI fan I can tell you your A6 probay will beat his GTI on a long stretch to 200km/h if his car is stock but if it has a good software remap (even stage 1) he will beat you. FRC or Revo can take 10 seconds of a 0-200km/h time. So... What have you guys done to mod your cars?

OK, you asked us not to express the negative opinions you knew you'd end up getting for publicising your intention to partake in such idiotic behaviour on this forum, and I held back to a certain extent. But this response of yours with it's clear undertones and sarcasm gives me free reign to express my opinion too.

Guys who even contemplate racing on a public road are idiots. Yes, you appear to be making an effort to find an unused road but we all know that one kilometre of well maintained, unused road is not going to exist. Your next option, as suggested by others, is an infrequently used road. If there is only one car on that road every 24 hours who knows whether that one car decides to come along there just when you are taking part in your pissing contest. Even without that one car, if you guys end up crashing it is my bloody tax money that will get used when the cops, fire engines, road repair men etc etc have to clean up the scraps you leave behind. Of course it won't play out this way... the "it will never happen to me" mentality.

And yes, I do have strong feelings on guys racing on public roads in case you hadn't noticed. People die! Personally I do not have any sympathy if the racers themselves die, in fact if the truth be known I inwardly celebrate if I hear one died without injuring anyone else (the same way I would if I hear a criminal got shot and killed), it is the innocent people who could be affected.

This poll is useless coz you never stated which V6 quattro A6 you had in the poll question. Big difference between the old 3.2 and the 3.0T.

I put money on the GTI.

I don't have figures for the A6 in question, but I've taken from a 'similar' A3 3.2 V6.

The new A3 3.2V6 Quattro crosses 1km in a touch over 27 seconds with an exit speed of 194km/h. The GTI is a touch over 28 seconds with an exit speed of 186km/h.

The A6 has a smaller (less powerful engine?) and a larger (heavier body). It's also slow off the mark, so it's catching the GTI for the first 170km/h - whereas this A3 is ahead of the GTI from the word go (6.85 seconds to 100km/h and it simply stays ahead the entire time).

Not stock! I doubt we're talking about the new 3.0T v6 A6 which will still beat the GTI right from 1/4 mile. The GTI driver should know that. The old A6 3.0 V6 before the 3.2 will lose.

Standard GTI is 28.25 at the coast.

The OP has an A6 3.0 V6 quattro (non turbo) - which is slower than the A3 3.2 Quattro (non turbo) ... and that only pips the GTI to 1km.

How about 250mtr and a brick wall? That way you both keep the rest of us road users safe? What is wrong? Does your car get you from A to B? If so then why the reason for a c*ck fight? Oh! o.k. I rmbr, you said booze was involved.

Sorry for being harsh, but booze was involved in the death of more than a couple of friends!

Hear ye hear ye! All ye naysayers:
Can you tools read???

I have clearly stated, more than once that we are not prepared to break the law. Nor are we up for endangering the lives of ourselves let alone other road users.

We're not talking about 'fast & furious' 'street racing' here, we are talking about a gentlemanly challenge amongst gentlemen by Jove!

One would think that this would be VERY VERY clear had you read through the consecutive posts otherwise known as a 'thread' taken from the English language saying: follow the thread - have you bothered to read through the thread before hopping on your soapboxes?

Honestly LancelotSA: bleating about your tax Rands really is borderline personality disorder given the fact that you have definitely followed the discussion from the start.
Where have I expressed any desire to break the law or endanger anyone either through action or inaction?
Clearly: your bleatings are unfounded, unnecessary and frankly: weird.

So let me state it plainly then (and for the last time):
What we seek is a small stretch of unused road upon which to test our motors against the clock (spelling it out now: thus providing an even greater level of safety) and not against one another simultaneously.

So, one car at a time; unused road; race against the clock.

Seriously: if you take issue with that then I have no words... none at all.

Some people just cant read, or dont want to read or just want to find any excuse to climb on their soapboxes and spew their self-righteousness onto others.......

I hope you find your disused stretch of road Slinky. Look forward to hearing the outcome. If you do why not swap cars afterwards and repeat to see if the outcome is the same? Racing, competing, challenging and going to extremes is the essence of human spirit. Im sure you are aware of the risks and kudos for not wanting to put any others in danger.

I thank you Sir for your understanding, kind words and encouragement, I shall certainly report back once results are at hand.

I have taken the liberty of bolding your most poignantly put assertions. Well said Sir, well said indeed.;)
