Need a cooling solution

Hi,

I own a Intel Server Board SE7525GP2 chipset + SC5275-E chassis + 2 x Intel Xeons 3.0ghz

Currently the stock standard cooling is somewhere around the same dB as a Vacuum cleaner and I unfortunately dont have a server room to place it in.

For this reason Im looking for other cooling options like Water cooling. I need a solution that does not require any cutting of the server box and that is considerably softer than what I currently have.


If anyone has a solution please reply to this thread.

No "Intel sucks" please - I've had enough of that from people.

I don't know much about servers, so if my reply is a bit too n00bish, I apoligize, what about a good heatpipe? Or do you specifically need watercooling? With an exhaust and a good heatpipe on the cpu it could make a huge difference, I've heard of Amd X2's that run 15Celsius on a setup like that.

I like Xeon's although I'm an AMD fan, I think it is the best manufactured and well thought out processor in the history of pc's just my 2c though.

the rear fan is 120mm x 38mm, so you could replace that with a generic 120mm x 25mm unit.

the front fan by the hard drive bay is a 92mm unit, also replaceable with consumer units...

there is an option for another 3 fans, so not sure what you have in yoru system, but the others are also 1x120mm and 2 x80mm

that said, the fan SPEED is controlled by the intel server management software,

do the xeons have active fans on them? or is it passive with a shroud to channel air over them? if it is passive then i wouldnt mess with case fans to much, but if they have active fans and the machine isnt loaded to the max, then you can play with the case fans a bit..alternatively, contact your intel rep for this part number:
APTWKT2COOLKIT
which is the "quiet" cooling kit for that chassis (as long as your heatsinks have active fans)...no idea what it contains though..

Never ever use watercooling in your pc i wouldn't trust water running through my system! I bought a big Antec case which supports 5 120mm fans. 2 extractors on the side panel.

all of them are Zalman they have the best cooling fans and other accesories.

I'ts also worth to get a few Hd cooler bays and a extra heatsink or heatpipes. To give you an idea I run atm a 4000+ amd 64bit cpu and get arrround system temp 25c and 38 for cpu while playing games. all the fans speeds runs at 2000 rpms

previously when i didn't have these my system temp was 55 and cpu 65c so it does make a huge difference BTW the chasis also makes a huge difference as well. you must get a thermalate chasis too...
