Need a Net Meter

hi guys a need a net meter i can install on a pc and get the traffic reports but its password protected so the person using the pc cant reset the counters i own the pcs they are in my branches nationwide but one of them is using to much cap and i need to know who using a netmeter i can check using remote desktop?!?!?!

Hi Matt,

Using a netmeter on each pc is probably not the route to go. You need your gateway to do the reporting for you, so that you can get a report with the bandwidth used for each pc in each office. Most firewall appliances such as smoothwall, ipcop, pfsense, monowall etc can do this for you.

sounds cool can it be tampered with and remember this is over the internet not LAN , so is it still possible? thanks

Hi Matt,

Yes, it can be done - your firewall/Gateway will report all usage going through that machine and will keep records as to which machine is using how much.

You can view those reports from anywhere over the internet. Have a look at the websites of the products I mentioned for more details - depending on how computer and or linux savvy you are you may be able to get it going.

Alternatively I am happy to do it for you - the cost is not exhorbitant but seeing that it is nationwide branches it may add up in terms of travelling :).
