I thought I'd move to foam about 10 years ago. First I had a Cloud Nine. Omg I hated that mattress. Too HOT and back pain from hell.
Got rid of it after about a year.
Then I had a independent pocket coil mattress. Better than the Cloud Nine but i still had back pain. That mattress lasted 3 years.
Now I have a Tempur top of the range. Jeez do I hate this mattress. I wake up in a major sweat every night. Had to install a ceiling fan (best thing ever). Back pain hasn't gone anywhere. I spent so much money on this mattress I'm stuck with it. Every time I sleep elsewhere on a cheap sprung mattress I sleep like a baby.
So my 2cents: F**k foam.

Was it memory foam? I know memory foam gets hot as hell. I would stay away from those in SA climates unless you got the noodles for a aircon in your room.

Tempur is memory foam. Agreed, def too hot in SA.
However, there are people out there who swear by it. Even in SA. That's why I thought it would solve my probs. Boy was I wrong.

Cause we had one for years. Then we got discount from them on a new one. So our experience was great.

Actually thinking of buying 4 singles of that exact same one.

I got a simmons pocket spring, extra firm :) bit pricey but good
If you don't like it hard, get the comfort or plush one.

before buying a new bed try Mencal 7 for a 1 month.I have severe osteo arthritis and all back pain has gone when I sleep.Very poweful calcium supplement. Not cheap but far superior to a new mattress.I no longer wear a back brace due to this supplement.

I know you can't get it in SA but i had a ****ty little foam mattress and it killed my back.
Purchased this off a wim (100 day free trial so why not) https://www.noasleep.com/

I have never had a better mattress in my life. It is godly. Latex top , foam, pocket springs. Find something with such a set up and you will be in heaven... and im quite heavy and it supports me very very very very well.

I had a casual job in a bed sales shop when I was in school 20 odd years ago.

5 years back I bought a Genessi bed and do not regret it. It's foam layers. Wife and I both prefer firm beds, so went for one without a "pillow-top". The pillow-top is a softer layer sewn to the top of the bed to give a soft feel for sleeping, but you still have the benefit of the firm bed underneath it.

I turn ours every few months just to get rid of any body "denting" that may be there. Admittedly, after turning, the bed feels like a whole different bed again.

Either foam or spring should be fine if you buy a decent bed - don't cheap out. You spend on average 8 hours (or a third of your life) i on your bed.

Listen to this person and do not get a pillow top!Get a firm bed and if you are on the skinny side, then get a foam topper.

At R7k odd. Would imagine it would be another 2k in shipping. Funny enough, saw there is something similar in the states. Will see if I can find a link.

Different strokes for different folks.

I had a pocket coil latex top for a few months and it was terrible and after big fights returned it.

Went Cloud9 foam with latex top as firm as I could and can’t be happier.

My advice to OP is take your pillow with and go have a proper lie down on ones you fancy. Not 30 seconds hop on and off.

Lie down for at least 5 minutes and let your body settle into it.

Which at 9-10k is what a Cloud9 with Latex top in queen size will cost you.

And it will last 50 years.

Very true, mattresses are very specific to you.

I do wanna say though. Spending 5 minutes in a bed at a shop won't do any justice.
You really need 1 week at a minimum to know if a mattress is right for you.

Took me about 6 days for my body 5o adjust and after that no back ache at all.

Bought my bed in December from Bedking. Think it was the Comfort Solutions - Renoir bed.

I also struggled with back pain. Suggestions was to buy an extra length bed as I had the tendency where my feet would be hanging off the bed. Hence, additional strain on my lower back. Since I bought the bed, I have had zero pain in my back.

My wife got irritated as I was spending a lot of time laying down on beds and just chilling.

It’s true I mean I tested the original thoroughly and after the first night I knew it was wrong.

Still tried to convince myself for five days and it never gelled.

But 5 minutes is still better than hopping on and off.

Basically choose a shop with a good returns policy. Does CPA apply in 7 days for this stuff?
