I am in the market looking at buying all-in-one printer. Will it be Canon or HP?, I was at Makro today and saw the HP5610 with printer, copy, scan and fax ,however it has no lcd screen nor a card reader,But I have a PC with an onboard card reader and use my pc lcd. It's on promotion @ R1495.00.
Do anyone have this printer and does it do the job? I checked online reviews and it's a fairly good buy. I am looking in the range of under R1500.00,it's for home use only an all rounder ,any suggections?

It's a good printer, have one myself. They do have an LCD, how else would you know which number you're dialing when you send a fax ;)

Sorry I meant colour LCD screen to view your photo's before printing,I hope that clear up the confusion and not the norm? BUT all the years we had telephones without lcd screens, so why you need to see the number you dialling?

Do you specifically need a fax machine. If not then you can try the HP Photosmart range. Game has them from about R1100. They have a colour LCD and card reader.

Apart from dialing, you need the LCD in order to setup your fax settings, copy settings etc :p

no dude, Canon is way better than HP lately, very much so when it comes to multifunctions. Their after sales service is also brilliant. try to find a Canon near you, don't go to a regular retailer.

HP consumables are readily available. Not every store stocks Canon cartridges.

Thanx orin76, I'll looking into that one,do you have a model no# by any chance? I'll check Game too.

@GTi: The model I have is actually the HP C4183. The previous number I gave was from memory and was VERY wrong. My apologies.

What do you want to do with the printer?
For a basic, cost effective printer, the Canon IP4200 (can even print on CD's)
For heavyduty color printing, HP 2230

HP is the best. Our old Canon gave endless problems, but both our HP LaserJet 1200 and HP DeskJet 5550 are brilliant, albeit a bit dated now. The 5550 still produces excellent photo quality prints, though.

In fact, we still have a HP LaserJet II from way back in the early '90's that still works if I plug it into my Windows XP PC. :D

I would go for a small mono laser printer. Then later if needs be, get a small photo printer. (More expensive per photo than printing at the shops (?) )

HP is OK as long as it works - their aftersales service at ICSS is what frightens me.

HP will turn you into a cart junkie... there is a reason way they have the head built into the cartridge, it is because the heat process will cause the head to block and fail

Canon and Epson on the other hand generally have fixed heads, so you are replacing ink tanks and not head cartridges. Epson cartridges need to be re-set before they can be used again, or you can get a CIS (Continuous Ink Supply) - Canon printers currently do not have IC that needs to be re-set, but the ink you use is critical, I would not recommend one of those daft ink re-fill kits, or any kit that says it has universal ink

I was walking down the road the other day, when this dude pops out and says " R 50,00 for a brand new Lexmark printer "I thought about it for a while and said.... OK - So he gave me the Lexmark printer, and fifty Rand

But wait..... There's more

If you leave this incredible bargain on the back seat of your car, chances are someone will break in.... and put another one next to it, I heard that someone came back to their car to find ten printers stuffed on the back seat

Thanx for all the input guys, but I guess I am going for a HP,they last longer,as the company I work for only use HP, and they last with heavy duty printing daily. Canon cannot beat that.Thanx again and regards.
