Hey guys
I need some help with my addiction to sugar, Especially sweets. I swear its worse than crack! but just below heroin.

Any tips? I know its a coping mechanism of sorts, But how does one go about replacing sugar for something else?

Simplest thing to do is to stop buying sugar and sweets. If it's not in your home, then you'll learn to adapt without it.

Replacing one addicting coping mechanism for another is the wrong way to go about it. Why not try to address the root cause of your problem(s) that lead you to requiring a coping mechanism.

If it's a coping mechanism you need to deal with the underlying problem first.

Eat larger balanced meals more often. Don’t buy sweets, you will stop craving it. Have dark chocolate desserts on weekends.
This helped me.

Stop buying it, or replace it with something "healthier" such as chips, fruit or dried fruit.

As someone who has had a severe problem with the late night munchies, once you stop buying it and replace it with something else, it gradually goes away...

Someone told me that stopping sugar in coffee takes one week only ... I tried it, and it works. I won't say coffee tastes now like sugary coffee, it doesn't ... but I can appreciate the coffee's flavour a little better so it balances out.

How well do you eat? If my eating habits are poor and especially if my eating routine is unreliable my body turns on the give me energy now and eat all the crap you can find mode.
Stress and anxiety is the next trigger and the two are often related. Lots of overtime leads to both stress and poor eating habits.

Don't keep any sweets or sugar in the house for at least a week or 2 while you build up some willpower. Otherwise you will not resist it. Buy a sugar replacement and plan your meals ahead of time.

Addiction is psychological. It doesn't work to replace the problem with something else or another dopamine fix. If you don't eat proper meals to prevent feeling hypoglycaemic then you better start doing it.

Generally if im having a shitty day, i will lean towards sweets.

I gave up chocolate when the wife quite smoking. I managed because i could still do other sweets.

Guess cold turkey is the best way.

Agree, I was on 3 sugars, then went to 2 for 1 week and then to 1 the following week
And I am still on 1 sugar and love it coz I only drink 1 cup of coffee a day
After that I hit the beers
And yes I know there is plenty of sugar in beer :(

Once you haven't eaten any in a few weeks and have some you realise just how sweet they are and one or two are generally plenty. As long as you feed your body properly so you don't get low blood sugar cravings.
