Hey guys.

So telkom came to install the Fibre, I got it working using LAN. But i can't seem to log into the Router what so ever. Can't see it's ip in the cmd ipconfig /all. It is a Huawei Echolife GH8240H, can it be "locked" ?

I then connected my TP Link wireless router to the Huawei so that I have wifi for all my other devices.
My PC is also connected to the TP link now via LAN and has internet access.
I can see the TP link om my wireless devices and can connect, but there is 0 internet connectivity on the wireless devices.

Any Idea what could be wrong or what I can try to fix this?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks ladies

You don't manage anything on the Huawei, you just use your PPPoE on your TPLink, then WAN port from TPLink into Huawei (Openserve ONT)

The Huawei is supposed to have wifi according to specs that I saw, surely must be able to log into the Huawei.
But if not, that is why the TP Link is there, however I can't get the wireless to work. I can see and connect to it, but no internet connectivity for wireless

Is your pc set to dhcp? Aka getting a ip from the router?

Also that router's default ip is 192.168.1.1.

Managed to get into the TP link but not the Huewai ONT, tried all of the usual IP addresses including 192.168.1.1.
No it is not set to dhcp as far as I can remember. Will have to check when I am home

You need to check if your network configuration is either dhcp for the Huawei Echolife GH8240H to give you a ip. Or that your ip and subnet is set to 192.168.1.x 255.255.255.0

I have this feeling it is still static at 192.168.0.x for the tp link.

The ranges starting with 196 is normally configured as class C networks so you need to be in the same subnet.

Got a feeling It has to do wit that as well yeah. Will check when I get home. But got a feeling they not all on the same subnet as you said

So you do nothing on the Huawei regardless of what it supports, this is Openserves equipment which only they manage :), do you have a PPPoE account configured in your TP Link?

OPkay awesome.
I have the PPPoE setup on my PC, not on the TP link no.
Might that be why wireless can't connect?

Correct, you would be able to connect to the wireless itself. The TPLink needs to connect to the internet, and you to the TPLink.

Should it not be more of an access point though? As it is getting getting any internet directly

How would it be getting internet directly? Is it a router or an access point (model wise)?

Its an ADSL router. But as it is not supposed to be setup that way currently. The Fibre is plugged into the Huawei directly, and the then TP link ninto the Huawei

ahhh. now I get it.

make sure what the gateway address is like that. it should be 192.168.1.1

You need to configure the tp-link to be in the same ip subnet. Leave the wan settings alone on the tp-lnk. And don't connect anything to the WAN port.

Remember these are both gateways not just switches. So if the ip settings on the tp link looks like this:

tp-link.jpg

You'll get a conflict cause the same settings is used by the Huawei router. Your tp link needs to be on 192.168.1.2 or something.

Also disable DHCP on the tp-link cause the other router is already assigning IP addresses:

DHCP.jpg

Then check your pc configuration lan settings. either static with some IP in that subnet and the gateway set to the Huawei address 192.168.1.1 or obtain IP configuration automatically To get a address assigned via the DHCP by the Huawei.

Awesome explanation! Thank you very much! Will do all of this tonight and keep you posted!

If the gateway (Huawei) IP address is different just use the same process. but ensure everything is on that subnet rather than the 192.168.1.x I mentioned.

Edit: Also if you're connected to the LAN directly to the Huawei router. You said you can't see the gateway via ipconfig /all...

That doesn't make sense unless your network adapter settings are set badly. Which shouldn't even allow you to connect to the WAN (internet in this case) at all. If you reconfigure it just make sure you have the old settings saved like in a snapshot or something. I don't want to bust up your internet completely. lol

If it's an ADSL router it may not have a WAN port, what is the model of the router?
