Looking for some suggestions for multiplayer games to play with a friend.

At the moment we are playing CSGO, we are looking for some other shooters that have local servers for us to play on.

I tried showing him insurgency but he didn't really like it.

PUBG is all the rage these days. Yes the servers are EU based, but if you play with the knowledge of knowing you're a few milliseconds behind and play accordingly, many a chicken dinner can be had.

Duo or Squad play is a lot better than solo and is often very hectic.

Local servers? Both of us only have 4mb lines

Will PUBG work with a 4mb line?

We have squadies who play on all kinds of connections, including 4Mb ADSL. It always depends on your ISP and your international contention ratio. Also of course, your local infrastructure.

Just be prepared for a steep learning curve upfront (where to loot, where vehicles and guns spawn, which are the highly contested area's and the map layout for example) but once you get a good feel for it, first chicken dinner is usually about 20 hours into the game :)

Both of us are stuck on Telkom and my exchange is usually congested till 9pm. But I take a look at PUBG, I've been wanting to get it for a while.

The speed of your line has nothing to do with latency/ping, 2Mbps ADSL and 20Mbps ADSL will have the same ping if you're in the same location.

Also Fortnite Battle Royale is free to play and is absolutely blowing up right now, the last announcement they made at the start of December they had 30 million downloads and 1.3 million concurrent players, a month earlier they had 20 million players.

Borderlands.

EDIT: You looking for campaign style (like Borderlands) or more deathmatch style?

I tried PUBG and liked it as I played DayZ, H1Z1 (and king of the hill) as well as the Arma 3 mod Battle royale. It follows the same feel, very tense and exciting. One thing I don't like about PUBG though is the amazingly steep learning curve. I am good at shooter games, and have plenty wins in other Battle Royale type games but PUBG is reaallly hard (for me apparently).

Fortnight Battle Royale is awesome, its got a lot more casual feel to it, and unlike PUBG, deaths don't feel like you've wasted the last 30 minutes looking for an AK just to be shot by a noob with a pistol. Fortnight BR is a lot faster in terms of rounds starts and getting loot, with firefights happening a lot more readily, there is camping obviously, but people are less afraid of taking fights and that makes the game, for me at least, a lot more exciting than PUBG.

Also, Fortnight BR runs on a potato at 60fps, PUBG doesnt quite get there on decent systems

I wanted to buy PUBG for the longest time and I probably would have during the Christmas sale but then Fortnite BR came out and I instantly fell in love.

I tried watching people play PUBG on Twitch after version 1.0 came out and I was bored out of my mind, after playing Fortnite, PUBG looks so dreary and boring, the servers can't handle the load which causes desync and are riddled with hackers because they refuse to region lock the Chinese because money, the game is a copy and paste of premade assests.

Also it has to be said, I can't remember the last time I've seen a dev team like Epic, you just know they really love the game so much so that they even play it themselves in their free time.

When I played Unreal Tournament back in the day, and we played on the Comp servers, you would see an Epic dev almost daily just jamming with the rest of the community, they are a different breed of people in the gaming industry. They interact a lot with their players and community, on all of their projects.

BTW, Paragon is also from them and also brilliant!

Also just to clarify when you say the game is a lot more casual, not to discourage potential serious gamers, don't let the look fool you.

You mean it's easier to get into and have fun, you're still going to run into very stiff competition, you still have to be good to get that number one spot.

more into deathmatch, though if its a good campaign we may play it. I did find Borderlands to be a drag if we played it in long sessions

I can't get into FortniteBR as much as I want to because of the delay when switching weapons. Why did they make it server side, it doesn't make sense!
