So....like the title says, got a sql 2005 database running. Need to find a whole bunch of information from it. Dont have the management software/licenses for it and seriously know very little about sql/databases.

Is there a utility I can use to query the database?

Is there an ODBC connector configured for the database? Then you could just use something like Excel to perform your queries.

Just be careful with SQL Server 2008 Express, the management studio has a lot of prerequisites
  • Windows Installer 4.5
  • .NET 3.5 SP 1 (+ all three updates to other .NET versions)
  • Windows Powershell 1.0
  • SP1 for Visual Studio 2008 (if applicable)

I would say rather use 2005 unless you need a feature of 2008?

The only reason I know this is because SQL Compact 3.5 (and 3.5 SP1) unfortunately requires the Management Studio for SQL 2008, so I spent some quality time patching my machine.
