My friend Jill's mother is over 90 years old and she wants to sell her car privately as webuycars offered her 10 K less than it is worth.

I found the same friend a good deal on this forum over 2 years ago but when it comes to selling it to a stranger met online what safety advice would you have., or even your thoughts on how much she can get for it.

I just found out it only has 42 000 km on the clock!

The sale aint done until you have the cash inhand. Just because you received an email stating cash has been EFT'd doesn't mean you have the cash

Also do the sale in person next to a police station. Don't go to their house and drive with them to an ATM.

Ok thank you for the advice. My brother fell into the trap of accepting a bank guaranteed cheque, so that is not an option, but the rest of the advice is great.

My biggest worry is the payment and test drive.

We won't do the following :
Drive with the buyer to the bank.
Accept a cheque.
Accept cash, it can be taken back at gunpoint.

I'm left with the following questions :

How do we do the payment?
What if the person /persons wants to test drive the car? I don't think it is safe to let someone drive the car around the block.
Can I trust looking at the buyers profile on this forum and make sure it's been on here for years and a lot of posts?

I've already had 5 people responding and don't know the way forward.

Even if I let the person meet us outside of a police station they can still pull out a gun at some point with one of us in the car.

I'm getting paranoid here but we have to come up with the safest way to do the payment.

I'm at the level of letting them into the old age home, block the entrance with my car and hide somewhere

Nobody is going to buy a car from you without test driving it mate.

If you don’t want the hassles and drama take the deal from Webuycars.

That’s literally why they get to pay you less as they need to deal with all that.

IMO, I would accept the 10k less offered by webuycars.
The risk of what could go wrong when selling privately to a stranger is just not worth it.
Just my 2c.
