Hi folks,

Just become an owner of a house with a pool, medium size (approx. 45k L). First time pool owner.

Creepie crawly has a timer on it, like a clock with pins that you insert for on/ off.

The current setting is that it goes on every 5 hours for 5 hours.

Is this set up ok ? Should it be different in summer and winter ?

Advice is appreciated.

You might need more than 5 hours in summer. Test your chlorine levels and stabiliser. If you don't have enough stabiliser in the pool, your pump will need to be on for longer. Too much stabiliser and the chlorine stops working.

Buy a pool test kit and start testing each day (the strips are quite convenient and have a test for stabiliser). If the chlorine levels stay constant then your pump is set just fine. You can reduce it each day until you start to notice a difference and then determine the optimum setting.

Bottom line with a pool is to get the balance right. Keep chlorine levels up for a clear pool. Eliminate metals for a sparkling pool. Maintain acid levels for correct pH...

I find I have better results putting it on for an hour off an hour. Kreepy has less chance of getting itself stuck. My timer will run from 06:00 - 20:00 so it only runs a max of 8 hours a day. Save energy & still keeps my pool clean. I do a backwash & rinse once a week. Clean the well as required (them damn leaves - hate them) Get a leaf catcher! (mine broke). Oh and Blu52 crud sux! I use clear4weeks, much better...

Good advice thx guys.

Got the leaf catcher, must get the strips, will try the alternate settings and monitor the levels, hoping to minimize consumption but sufficiently to keep a crisp pool.
